Mine is mounted in the plastic piece beside the license plate.

You can mount it inside the car with a rod and handle sticking out the back. Push must be the OFF position. When used on the street, the rod can easily be removed with only a small hole showing.

Why can't you put it behind the license plate?

If you put it behind the license plate you will have to remove your plate everytime you go to the track.

Make a bracket and mount it under the bumper.

I even see people mount them in the center of the license plate, not sure how cop friendly that is but it doesnt look half bad.

I agree. If you have it mounted facing down, under the bumper, that would kind of be hidden, but also still accessible.

just fold the plate down, besides how often are you going to the track that removing the whole thing would be a hassle?

I only turn mine off at the end of the day. Leaving it on is like leaving your battery connected all the time. As long as there's no power drain, it won't harm anything. In a street car with a digital radio, turning it off will usually require reprogramming the clock and presets.

There is another option. You could still mount it inside the car. Drill a hole somewhere around the license plate. I'm not sure just how much room is beside or under the plate. A minimum of a 1/8" thick rod is required to push the switch off. Mount a Tee handle on the rod that sticks out the back. Drill a hole through the handle of the switch that the rod will go through. When you push the Tee handle, it pushes the switch to the off position. Pulling the rod doesn't have to turn the switch back on but then that just means you need to open the hatch with a disconnected battery to turn the switch back on. When you're not at the track you simply remove the rod from the switch leaving a small hole at the back.

You could even have the hole behind the plate and just remove the plate and install the push rod when at the track.

Don't forget that when the switch is turned off it must also kill the engine so that means there needs to be a way to disconnect the field wire on the alternator or the ignition power source wire at the same time or else the alternator will still keep the electrical system charged and engine running.

why haven't the rules changed yet allowing the ground wire to be switched off rather than the positive wire? i was just wondering since i've seen this posted up here before.

A master switch mounted at the rear. It's required when you relocate the battery. The master switch must shut off all the power and kill the engine when shut off.

so why do you need it? is it a 'race only safety thing' or something?

If your battery is not in the factory location it becomes a safety issue. Just in case there's any kind of problem, anyone can quickly turn off the car. In case there's an accident and the car is on it's roof and the engine is stuck at WOT, turning the switch off will kill the engine. If for some reason a fire starts under the hood, turning off the switch will kill the engine and electric fuel pump etc.

It's also manditory to have a kill switch if the car runs quicker than 9.99 no matter where the battery is located.

Lots of other rules about the switch. Can't be made of plastic, can't be keyed, OFF must clearly be marked. If installed as a push/pull, push is OFF. Must be wired into the positive cable and must kill engine when turned off.

In a street car with a relocated battery, having to install a kill switch is a pain as you can read from the above messages.
