Be sure to check your baseplate screws
Getting car ready for the track this weekend and changed bowl/metering block gaskets. Found fuel leaks and thought maybe I screwed up. Naturally took bowls back off, gaskets checked out so reassembled, still leaking. Looked like it was coming from main body/baseplate gasket area.
Took carb completely off-needed to change intake/spacer gaskets anyways and went to check screws holding basplate to main body. Each screw to a minimum of 1/2 turn-1 turn, then both accelerator pump screws eash took a full 1/4 turn. Reinstalled and no more leaks.
Figure it's probably from all the street driving and vibration related, but might not be a bad idea to double check your just in case...I did'nt expect it and now know why it smelt pretty gassey when doing the stop light to stop light deal

my buddy lost his blower from a baseplate screw dropping into the rotors. i believe it was the center baseplate screw that dropped in. I definately check them anytime the carb is off the motor.

Same here. I've found loose ones also.
We're talking about Holley/Demon type carbs.

Now that you've brought this up, I've also seen this numerous times in the past. I really didn't plan on taking the carbs off my blower until I just now read this. I guess after sinking a bunch of money into fixing/upgrading my engine, it would really suck to ruin it and/or my supercharger because of a 2 cent screw.

I found something else loose on the engine last weekend
While changing to poly motor mounts I found the brackets that attach to the motor, loose
The driver side bracket had the 2 top bolts missing and the bottom one ready to fall out. Passenger side was loose but everything was there. Never made any funny noises or clunks but damn glad I caught that before the engine tried to jump through the hood. Feels more responsive now also

I think that's one of the biggest fears I have about going back into the track. Having something I missed during all the winter projects fall off and cause more damage. A couple of months ago I was under the car doing something. I think it was when I was working on getting the headers installed. I noticed that I hadn't tightened the u-joint caps on the diff. It's something like that I'm worried about. It's hard to go over absolutely everything to make sure it was all done. Last thing I'm going to check is to see if I torqued the wheels.
Although I'm ready to go with just over a month before the first race, I want to do some more changes!! A starter swap is going to be the worst. I need to pull the passenger header off to change the starter. The old starter is starting to go and I don't want to get caught in the staging lanes with a failed starter so it gets done real soon. Other changes are things I'd like to do but can still race without them.

I hear ya, could'nt find motivation to work on the car during the winter since it was soo cold. Now, kinda running around like a madman getting it ready, been doing little stuff here and there. Finally made a to do list of all the little stuff and got'em all checked off yesterday expect new plugs, check timing, and run valves. Got all the underside "nuttin and boltin" done I think/hope.
Only thing I'm worried about is something going bye bye since I did'nt pull motor or tranny this winter for freshen up-first time in 4 years cars had same set-up back to back
tranney fluid that came out yesterday looked as good as any coming straight from a brand new bottle and absolutely no stink, so hopefully the clutches are still in good shape too.
Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I wasn't going to bother pulling the carb, now you've got me thinking I should.
