How About 13's?
This is my first TPI car, so...
Ya think gears, exhaust, AFPR, dyno tune, and drag radials will get me high 13's? Then what about a 100shot of some go-go-juice
The car only has 39K miles on it, so its not worn out at all. Id like to be able to say "its only a 305" then run a high 13 on motor, or low 13 on spray. Possible?

It is not easy to get a 305 into the 13's. My 350 with the list of mods below ran a best of 13.7@98. So you are not going to get into the 13's with bolt ons. To get into the 13's you will need lots of bolt ons,and then you will have to dig into the motor such as heads and a cam.

I know of alot of L98's in the 13's with what you have, some with not even as much. Gears, exhaust, AFPR, dyno tune, and drag radials should probably put me at what them, low-mid 14's? Then of course 13's will be easy if I use nitrous. Im gonna get some tracks of the car in a couple weeks, Im expecting it between 14.9-15.2 The lo3 Camaro I had went 15.8, and this T/A definetly feels faster.

weight reduction! get creative so it doesn't take away from the overall streetability of the car. my car has full interior and sub and weighs 3260 with my 250lbs butt in there. mine is carbed, but my 305 has gone 13.08 @ 102.74mph on motor alone. get full exhaust(hooker 2055's with !cat and 3+" catback of choice), stall converter(2500-3000), gears(3.73:1), and sticky tires(m/t has a really nice Drag Radial they just recently came out with). that will get you REALLY close.

Maybe this will help. It shows what it takes to get a 305TPI Trans Am into the high 13's

Now just what is there to remove for weight reduction? Id need to shed like 100 pounds just for a tenth of a second. And I have a set of M/T ET Street P275 Drag Radials. After I sell my Camaro I think I'll buy a nitrous kit to finish the job.

With 188,000 miles on an untouched longblock and just some free mods (No cat, chambered muffler, cut out airboxes, gasket matched lower intake, siamesed runners, cleaned up pleunum, and 10* initital timing) on drag radials I ran a 15.11 @ 92.12 with a 2.21 60'.
This is with 3.08 gears, car is a hardtop with AC and power everything, wieghs 3460 with me in it and nearly full gas tank.
I'm sure some headers, gears and aftermaket runners might put it in the mid to low 14's but it'd need some head work and a bigger cam to hit 13's without gutting the car.
Or I may just piece a "kit" together and try it anyway.

mw66nova u have a 310 LOL
first a good running late model l98 should run high 13's with a converter and full exhaust/air box mod. mines there with 2.77 gears and street tires on factory rims. gettin some new times this weekend with teh 3.27's
a late 305 is rated at 210hp/285 torque. you need to bump those numbers up a bit. a better cam would help. the manual 305's with the G92 option got the L98 cam and made 230/300. those numbers are good for mid 14's driven right.
so with that said, ur gonna need a converter, probly 2800stall. gears, drag radials, some bolt on TPI mods, full exhaust-header back with high flowing muffler, AFPR, and a tune would help. that should do bottom 14's and if ur lucky, i see a high 13 second run.
if that doesnt do it, step up to a mild cam like a L98 cam or something just abit bigger, something with 210 degrees duration and .470 lift. that should gain another 20rwhp-30rwhp easy and get u high 13's fairly consistantly.
a manual trans would help too to cut down on power lost thru the drivetrain, but thats not a big deal. the auto will get it done

My car without nitrous runs a 14.2
With the juice, my car runs the 1/4 at about13.5-13.6
Look at my mods
With a 2800 stall, I would be in the 13's with no juice

Im not gonna bother caming a 305. I can build a 383 or 400 for it over the next year. 2800stall seems high, but I dont know much about the LB9. Where dose its powerband start? And what should a stock one shift at? Mine is shifting in Drive at 5200rpm, in the red. Should I try reseting the TV cable? Or do I need to put a different servo in?

The cam I did as a 1st mod. Seems stupid, but I got the mechanic to do the intake gasket and while he was down there, he did it.
My power band starts about 2500 and shuts down at 5000.
Mine shifts at 5000, that is stock.
I wouldn't change the shift and the servo doesn't change the rpm shift change, the springs do.
The only reason why I am doing a 305 up in the 1st place is b/c I didn't have money when I started so I did the little bits.
But now, I am going till it blows and then biulding a 383 and moving the parts over.
Should be anytime soon the way I am going!!

Since Ohio decided to start having its normal weather again
, I havent gotten to the track yet. Hopefully this weekend. But last night I raced my friend in his Camaro. He went 14.3 on a hot and humid day. It was like 50* last night and we went from a 45mph pull. I pulled on him first, then he caught up, then we were side by side, dead even clear up 95mph. Then I went half throttle to let it shift into overdrive, then eased back to full throttle and it downshifted back into 3rd, so I let off then. He'd take me by 2 car lenghts from a stop though. So I think my lil 305 is runnin good. Mabey I will get that 14.99 with this nice cool weather.

So Im sitting in the staging lanes, waitin for Test&Tune to start running, but there are soo many cars thats its taking forever, then I get the phone call that 2 private planes had a mid-air collision in the area, me and my ground search&rescue team get out to it just to end up gaurding a plane engine sitting in some guys lawn all night. I left before I even got one run in, so I dont think Ill be getting a timeslip this year

I have all bolt ons with nitrous in a 88 L98 700r4 13.1 with a very severe traction problem. I have no doubt in my mind that if I had any form of street slicks or slicks I would run a high 12.

I’m usually up there with a beat up ’87 formula 350, silver with charcoal bottom stripes, occasionally I’ll have something else like my Black ’97 WS6, my old white ’83 TA or even my blue/green K1500 blazer (yes, 33” AT tires do decent burnouts and high 16’s are fast enough to hold back most of the diesels).
I’m usually up there with my brother that has a grey (used to be white), 84 Ford LTD LX 4 door that is usually running 11’s (302 with a custom blower setup)
People seem to recognize me when they see me also, no matter what car I have (I always have people walking up to me and I usually don’t remember or know where they know me from); I’m a big guy, brownish/blondish ponytail and beard, about 6’4’, 305# (most of it is in my chest and shoulders, about 58” chest and 38” waist, and most people don’t guess that I’m over the mid 2xx range unless you put me next to something).
I’m usually up there with my brother that has a grey (used to be white), 84 Ford LTD LX 4 door that is usually running 11’s (302 with a custom blower setup)
