28" ,29" or...

I have a stock 350tpi w/2.77 limited slip.
I understand tire height plays a part in gear ratio .
my question is what size tire should i run to make the most of the gear i have for now?
i currently have 26" radials and i'm going through the traps at about 4500rpm at 95mph.will changing tire size help get to the higher rpm's quicker?I know changing the gears will help but i need tires and cant do both right now.
my best time is 14.17 @ 95.25mph trying to see 13.9s w dr's and a few bolt ons.any advice appreciated Mike.

Going to a taller tire will make you cross the finish line at lower rpms. I'd stick with the 26" tires. 28" tires will make that 2:77 even higher and it won't 60ft as well.

Take his advice, currently you are crossing traps right around peak power-
perfect would be just past.
I would reccomend M/T 26x10 - 16 et streets, they are about 25.8 tall with 8.6 tread.. Take into consideration that a slick or street slick will grow some at speed causing even less gear advantage but minimal at your speed.
I used those on my car years ago before it was 60 ft'ing as hard, I have gotten low 1.5s on them with only 8.5 tread and all stock suspension.
Actually great wear to, long as you don't spin em on the street, rough pavement tears them up.

thanks 406
I am new to this 1/4 mile scene and trying to understand the basics.
so i guess my only option is the gears .I see most people prefer the 3.42's w/tpi.Will that up my rpm's & mph?
thanks Mike

thanks to you also 87_ta.
those are the exact ones Ive been looking at just wanted to make sure b4 i spent the money.my best 60' on cheap street tires is 1.97 and it spins a little when it hits 2nd gear.So i'm pretty sure the DR'S will help alot.what do you guys think about going to the 3.42's ?would it be worth it?I also know i need lca"s and brackets.

As nice as a taller tire is for making a bigger footprint from front to back, you'll need to change gear ratios to a deeper gear.

With 26" tires and going through the traps at only 4500 with 2.77 gears, you're going to need something closer to the 3.4x's for those 26" tires and probably 3.73 or 4.10 for some 28's.

Your 350TPI isn't a high rpm engine anyway. It should be maxed out around 5500 rpm.

I'd do the 3.42's also. Shouldnt be hard to find. I went through 2 of them when I had a 7.5 rear. They were in junk yards all day. I got whole rear ends for 50 bucks.

crossin the line at 4500rpms and 26inch tall tires?? that seems high.. i'm not even close to that with my 25.7 inch street tires and 3.27's. with my old 2.77's it was even less rpm.

but crossin the line at around 4500rpms is jsut about perfect for stock TPI.
i wouldnt go much higher than a 3.42 gear in a 10bolt. 9 bolts dont have that gear. so i'd stick with 3.27's. 3.70's will put you over about 5300rpms. abit too high for TPI, atleast stock setups.

but high 13's with 2.77's is easy. u dont even need drag radials.. get a converter and full exhaust... should do the trick. but with drag radials, it will be alot easier. 1.8x 60's will run high 13's all day long.
