Quesiton about Ohms & dual voice coils, also LCD screens
Ok... i've decided, being 17, and bringing in about 500 each month.. i can't get an engine any time soon, since the engine i want to build is going to cost me probably over 10 grand.... i'll save engine for marines, thx. so.. i've decided to go ahead w/ sound system, and dash/console.
I've decided to get two 12 inch subs. These RMS at 2000 Watts EACH... THey are dual voice coil, so they have dual power hookups. i've read that i fyou don't hook both up, you will damage the voice coils. They are 2 ohm subs each... Now... i can get 1 Ohm amps from sam company (audiobahn), that RMS at 1280 each, at 1 ohm.
I've read somewhere, that, Ohms add to each other... So... would i split the 2 ohms & 2000 watts so that it's 1 ohm, 1000 watts to each connection on the sub?... OR.. would i put 2000 watts to both connections at 1 ohm. I'm not worried about peak, cuz i'm sure that the subs probably peak at 2500 or 3000, i duno tho, i'll email the company about that when it comes time to purchasing.
So... would i just need those two 1280 Watt @ 1 ohm subs? double it up on one sub? so i have two subs, 4 amps? OR... should i find a 2000 watt amp that puts out two ohms, one channel (that's all i've found)...
Basically, what do i need to do to power these Subs? that's 4000 watts, lol... that's a crap load if you ask me, and everyone i've talked to thinks i'm utterly insane, but i have a thing with my chest hurting from bass, it's very addicting to me, and i hate treble. I also want to be heard... which.. my engine does good, but, i feel having some sweet bass making you deft would be good as well.
Now... with the LCD screens, i'm going to be putting a computer into this car, so... i can have my 12,346 mp3's with me wherever i go. I love my music & take it to heart. I'm tired of having what few cd's my CD case can carry, and i want them all with me at the same time. SO i can punch in . & type the name of the song, press enter, and go, gg winamp.
I've looked at LCD's, and they are typically 1400 something X 280 or something like that.
Now... computers don't go to that resolution. So... will it work ? going into Svideo, or... will the resolution just be so offset it wouldn't work at all?.
I have found Computer 7" LCD"s, but will those interchange with the resolutions of smaller things, such as Xbox(since i'm going to do that)..
Here's the setup basically.. Computer with DVD drive, & an Xbox. I want to run them both on the same screens, all throughout the car(planning to have 3 screens).. One on T-top center. One in dash, and one for the back passengers.
What do i need to do with the LCD screens? Has anyone messed with a setup like this? or will i be the ballsy first?... for this car.
& yes yes, i know, i'll probably need a more powerful alternator, i've been told the whole precautions with harddrives on computers as well, i am a computer nerd & know computers quite well also, i'm not worried about the computer, i'm worried about subs & LCD's.
Thanks, & sry for the lengthyness.

Obviously your lost in the world of car stereo, neve go by power ratings cause there all bull****. I have two JL 12w6v2's they rate them at 400 rms i am giving them a thousand watts a piece. I did spl comps with them and have yet to blow them. Ohms are resistances when something is paralelled you my take the recipricol of the ohms and ad them then flip the number you get. Ohms in series just add. That is how you form a load out of DVC subs. you eaither parallel or series the voice coils.
saving does wonders, & it's not as much as you think. i shop around for cheap prices. & might go to diff subs/amps too..i've addded it all up, & it's not as much as you think, few months saving & that's it.
& no, not lost in the world of car stero, just power... i'm obsessed with mass amounts of unneeded & unused power... it's a thing of mine, and a flaw i have, but i have to feed it.
JL's are far too expensive, & i agree with you, a 400 watt system would do plenty, but, it goes back to the power deal... i might get Alpine type R's, 1500 watts, but.. i duno..
& what what with recipricals?
&... what about the LCD's, lol..

1. With the LCD screens, you REALLY dont need 3 screens unless your 1. trying to get on MTV or 2. planning on goin to some competitions. and your budget rules out both of those. just get one screen. your passengers are so close to the front it wont make a difference if there is a monitor in the back for them or not.
2. Audiobahn is WAY power over rated. from that 1280 rms amp your probably going to get 1280 MAX out of it and its goin to be drawing more amps from your battery than you can handle. If you really take your music to heart, build a system that sounds good. a good high quality SQ system doesent have to have a lot of power, it has to built very well. audiobahn will not be a good choice if you want any SQ at all. ive got 2 IDQ's with about 300 watts max going to them. Its plenty loud when i want to play it loud, and the SQ is very hard to beat....but i also put $600 into my box
3. never go by what he just said. The power ratings are there for a reason. Yes you can greatly over power a lot of different subwoofers, depending on brands..etc. But when you get into the greatly overpowering like camdogrs has done...your just goin for pure loud S H I T. for SPL comps thats fine. but for the rest of the world it sucks a big ol ****. you run a great risk of blowing your subs...plus your bass will over power your mids and highs a lot.....one of my biggest pet peaves!!!

If your system is tuned right your mids and highd will never be over powered. Now if you over power subs and have no concept of what distortion is an over excursion then you shoould just not own a stereo. There are plenty of amps out that can push mids and highs to be load and clear as hell. I install for a reputable shop in my my area and no best buy and tweeter dont count. Weve done plenty of proffesional football and basketball players for philadelphia teams. Take a look at my install at www.sounddomain.com search for camdogrs.

i resent that comment about best buy. i'm an installer at best buy and before then i was at sound crafters in daytona beach. i have a 92 rs with 3 12" fosgate dvc's, amps, and highs. i'm hitting 157db and my best buy mids and high are holding up just fine.
Sorry
Im sorry about that comment but you can't tell me you havent seen work comeout of there that wasnt quality at all. Obviously you have had prior experience that most people that work there don't. What type of box are you using, mdf or fiberglass?

i'm using mdf right now, i had a glass box i made. it didn't like the abuse. it was 1/2 in thick with 3 layers of cloth. so i'm dooing the jvc subs at bby (beter lows and more eficent) so i took a sledge to the glass box. i'm doing 4 dvc's on an older fosgate power bd1000. but it's on the back burner 4 now (i'm droping the 3.1L v6 for a big block caddy 8.2L small upgrade

out of commission
thats funny cause my car is out of commmision right im swapping out my 3.1 for a custom 350. Carburated 750 holley, world products heads 202 160, 510 lift cam, edelbrock per. rpm manifold, forged crank and pistons, 10:1 compression, full alum roller rockers, th700r4 w/ 3200 stall, 3.73 with new axels and zexel torson differential. Im so excited to get it driving again but i have had plenty of time to make door panels and change my fibrglass amp rack. So i guess its working out smoothly so far......
and then when its done all those mustang 5.slows will be bowing to me like this:hail:
and then when its done all those mustang 5.slows will be bowing to me like this:hail: 500
yea i'm gathering all of the stuff i need (like a caddi 500 is a common swap) but my other project is my friends 88 gt (5slow)
but it is a totally strip down rebulid like onley the shell is left. we made brackets on casters to hold the boddy. (so i learn fron ford screw ups) and their are alot ot them. it;s going from 88 gt ,auto 5.0. to 398 stroker tremmic 6spd, 03 cobra irs, and the n/a motor should get (after all mods) be making 550 to 650hp/ftlbs. so i'm taking my time
i'll try to get pics up and running on either if you would like
