Shift Light 4 TPI @ what RPM?

I have a 91 Formula, 5 speed with TPI motor, MSD ignition, exhaust, suspension done, etc...

The factory red line is 5500 & I know TPI motors have most of their grunt @ lower RPM's...

Just curious as to what I should set my shift light at... I know it should be lower than red line to account for time to see / shift, etc.. What are most of your running?

Thanks,
Rafael

Are you using the AutoMeter light? Get some pills and experiment. Try 4800, 5000, and see what happens. No two cars are the same. With a stock runner it might like 5000, or 5200. The idea is to get it to drop into the sweet spot, probably being 4900.

i'd say run out first gear a little higher than second due to the drop in RPMs after the shift, but you'll really need to experiment to figure out what the car likes best. somewhere between 4500 and 5500. I usually make 2-300 rpm shift changes and if it picks up or slows down then you can make 100 rpm changes.

I have a tad more cam and heads than you do but I still shift mine at 5000. My shift light comes on at about 4900 so I get it shifted by 5000. I have an Accel 300+ ignition and my rev limiter is set at 5500 which I never hit unless I am autocrossing and stretching it out a bit. Hope this helps.
