bugs worked out, shes coming around now! 1.4`s 60`s
Hey guys, after figthing several trans problems and a front end wobble, the old junker is starting to get serious! Let me start off by saying at Norwalk april 30th it bested at a 10.50 @ 132 wheels hanging...well it was not all glamore, the car stopped going into reverse, it would LOCK in reverse and load the converter, a hard part failure for sure! Sure enough, low/reverse pack broke the case lugs and fubarred the output planatery and sun gear/shell. Well, being a cheap a** I decided to fix it myself, wrong answer...it did work but crept on the brake..no good for anything but street racing maybe. Well after taking it to someone who knows what they are doing, "Mike" at riding`s automatics...I was set up with a full roller th350 that would lock down on the brake and works like it should.
Took it out to the "dirt" track (it`s kinda of a elementry dragstrip) pits are dirt...anyways the car was working good trans and front end, had to drop the PSI in the hoosier QTP`s to 11....left off the brake at 3800rpm and tromped down the track touching the limiter on every shift to a 10.30 / 134mph Also a new best 60ft time I`M in the 1.4`s!!..still more in it judging by the MPH but it is still running a bit lean at 95`s square.

feels good when it works doesnt it, when you get that 496 working right you will probably be looking for the rest of the trans on the track, i hope you have a blanket at minimum on that trans (recently put a scater shield on my ride to keep those 350 parts away from me) and just passed into the 9's with it went 9.99 (350 cube with small 150 shot) and i was on the rev limiter from 1000 ft so i only went 132 mph....and when i got the time slip i was pissed ! had some setup problems when it matterd ( race time) and the car turned left bad but i still snuck a trophy out of the track owners hands. in fact when i got to the pits my boss came over and said hey eds lookin for you , i was like huh why , you just got his trophy, it was funny...anyway keep it safe and 9.99 = chute, certified cage pants and shoes what a pain and i will need to figure out how to make a chute look good on a 3rd gen if i do maybe ill send you pics, looks like you will need to know soon good luck

Yea, That`s what I`m thinking, it`s giving alot up at the line, I`m going to move into to a higher converter when I get some more xtra $ but I`m having a ball going out everytime and running a little bit faster each time. I`m still jetting up and it`s still mph`ing more everytime. I actually see the coating on my #3 header tube is burned a bit...looks like it got red in 1 spot about 3 inches off the head, don`t know when it happened but I`m running at 38* total now and it whinces a bit before it fires even with the start retard.

What you got in that th350 to keep it alive? Most the tranny builders I have been talking to won't even build a th350 for my bb car.
COngrats on the times!

I still have my timing at 35*, been wanting to go more - but still dialing in jetting as you are..

I am running 350 trans as well - just a TCI rebuild kit and rdneck performance transbrake from ebay..
Speaking of, what transbrake are you using Greez? I bought this one because it was cheap, it was a fast reacting brake though - I though "how much faster could it be" I can't stop redlighting!!!!!! it very fast..

i'll be pushing for some improvement just like you, but not nearly as fast.. so far 1.81/7.90/12.41.. hoping for 1.6x/7.x/11.9 or even faster..

Trans now has..
Redline frictions thoughout, turbulator steels in the low/reverse, rollerized output/input planateries, 36 element sprag and drum, hardened sprag race, ******* trans brake,TCI pan and B&M super cooler.
Future upgrades will be kolene steels in the intermediate fwd and direct packs, a rollerized pump, tail shaft and a cage bearing in the bottom of the case for the output shaft, a tempered then re hardened input shaft (acts like a torision bar then) won`t break! The guy I hooked up with has a few th350 in BIG HP cars and they are holding. Gear ratio swap possibly too.

I'm glad for you man!! I know you endured alot of the same pain I did! You are deffinetly leaving some et at the line!! But I also know the price of a custom converter!! Put a hurting on me, thats for sure.. I actually traded in (3) converter I had - TCI will let you do that.. My racing inventory has been dropping by the week, alot because of thos project - been selling everything out of garage to get things I need - starting to run out of parts though
I still have my timing at 35*, been wanting to go more - but still dialing in jetting as you are..

Yep, Yep, Yep...no fast cars are without grief, I have come to realize that...also they can be a expensive hobby if you let the bug getcha.
87T/A RDNECK ALL THE WAY!!! it`s fast, those guys are doing great work on the th350`s they bought out the old art carr shop, everything that was supposed to be in that trans was, even though I had a case faliure, I`m still happy with my purchase for the money even the local trans guru`s jaw dropped after I told him what I paid for that trans
!P.S. I had 6 frictions in my direct pack, I was amazed they could do that, I thought 5 was pushing it.

Yes, Mike knows his stuff. He did my trans. I just pullesd my car back out over the weekend (Been to busy boating). I put a 383 in the car and plan to spray it later this year. The best ET over the weekend was 11.10 and best MPH was 122.8, best 60ft was 1.52 (Spinning). I will be going back to the "field of dreams" (Lapeer) in a couple of weeks to do some more testing and hoping to pop a 10.99 or faster. Then with the juice hopefully low 10's high 9's.

congrats on the new times, mph is there for some 9's no problem once you get it sorted out
definaely hauling the mail, but that kind of mph making driving the stripe in no box class much easier since your in the faster end of the majority of cars running.
