good night last night! *pics and a vid*
did nothing to the motor, other than actually set timing, lol! found out that i only had 10* initial. played with it a little and got best results with 18* initial. mangaged a 12.844@103mph on a 1.72 60'. not too bad considering. weather was much cooler so i can't compare apples to apples. last time out was 85-90* and sticky. last night was low 60*'s and dry. it was very nice. car hooked well every pass. 60's in the 1.72-1.74 range(on a marginal track with lots of street tire cars going down)....don't tell me drag radials aren't consistant!

no offense, but when you put more power to those drag radials they aren't consistent unless your suspension is 100% perfect(think double adjustable shocks/struts) and the track prep is amazing. a 1.7 60' isn't anything to brag about, this is why those tires are working for you.

the tires are a "suspension tuners" tire, but honestly, they work just as well as a slick once everything is setup properly. they are far more stable of a tire on the top end of the track and act just like any other comparable sized radial tire when they are on the street. i realize that there are plenty of guys on here running in the 1.3 and 1.4 60' range, but i'm sorry, i believe that a 1.72 out of an iron headed 305 is DAMN good. please don't knock what i've done...cause i've done it with FAR less than most on here.
mud flaps are there to keep as much rubber off the car as possible. yes i know you can put pam or whatever on there and it wipes right off, but this is for those times when i'm somewhat absent-minded and forget the pam at home (like last night, lol!)
Justin, i hope you get it man! weather was great down here, hope it's the same for you up in your neck of the woods!

my old 305 was 13.0 at 102 and 11.60s on spray with a high 1.6 on slicks on motor and 1.5s on spray out of the hole. Not knockin it as I've been there done that and the slicks just plain work better. As for being stable on the top end, that is true but my car is never all over the place anyways. The radials were 1.4 mph higher on the big end, but the 60' and ET were lower with 28x10.50 stiff sidewall slicks. Plus this site isn't really what I'd call a drag racers site, everyone on here has combos that for whatever reason are just plain slower than what they should be 90% of the time. There are far better sites out there for straightline tips only.

I think what he is trying to say is your not running crazy fast 60ft times, like to guys that run in drag radial class. Your car would be consistent on just about any tire you put on it. Here is a video of the drag radial class at the street nats. in Orlando last year. Rick heads Camaro is on there to.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! Budget car!!!!!!
Re: good night last night! *pics and a vid*
for what matt has, his car is quick, he was a little down after the local f body club gig , but , now that its cooler he ran alot better, and for someone that spent alot of time finding and using parts the way he has , he needs a pat on the back, and in time he will go faster, and might just stick with those d/r's just since everybody said not to, i say go for it, just be safe and have fun, and since he got another fiberglass hood (if it got home allright) that he will modify to make the vent work, it will go faster. he is making excellent use of what he has, and being underpowered means the rest of the car must be efficiant, so if he gets more power he will make better use of it than most would.
like if he had my combo, he would have ran home scared poopless i have some videos coming of that i hope, but matt will dig it and i would say most on here cant do it on basically stock suspension, matt probably could since he has worked the rest to use what he has some people on here who drag alot should do better with what they have but have something not working right, i think the most expensive thing on matts car are the wheels, well untill he drops the 9 in it, that might actually slow him down a bit, since it uses more power, but i think he will need it sooner or later, so rock on matt

Re: good night last night! *pics and a vid*
thanks rich! i got the hood home safe and sound. this thing is in ridiculously good condition. make sure you tell Ian(sp?) thank you very very much. i've already got the vents cut out and i'm about to wash it and put it on the car
i've been around the very very fast drag radials cars since 10's were fast in that class, and the only tire to run was the BFG Drag Radial T/A's...the first version. i'm been completely enthralled with the class since then and while i may never run the "outlaw drag radial" class, i'd like to run something like Rich Maitre's N/A Shootout stuff. those guys are running like 9.30's or so...and the small cube guys get weight breaks

Always look at it this way man .. You do alot more with that 305 then what most do with more cubes! More cubes is ALWAYS better but with that sometimes people let it go to there head
A buddie of mine just done a bbc swap in his (which I'm in the middle of doing myself) and he took it to a T&T and got spanked by a 357 sbc (both cars were N/A and DR and were very close in weight and suspension work) so it pays to know your engine math! and I think Matt is one of them guys! .. he makes a 305 run low 12's N/A .. wait till he gets a bigger displacement in it (hats off to ya bro!)

Re: good night last night! *pics and a vid*
they are kinda portly cars compared to a fox body though most of those guys need to add quite a bit of weight to make a 3200 lb minimum (local guy with turbo sbc in a fox body with a full interior has 200 pounds bolted to the cage above the rear axle) some of the street car rules are definitly tilted to one kind of car they seem to favor mustangs, espicially one that you need to keep factory floor pans and front frame rails un touched to back of doors, you can get pretty big duals under a stang its tough on a f-body to get them in and not have to look like a 4 wheel drive truck since the car is si high, i have 3 inch duals that stop in front of the axle, but there is about 1/4 inch to the trans and 1/8 to the frame rail , it would hit if it didnt have a mid plate

I would think the mudflaps are there to keep as much rubber off the 1/4's as possible
