You like having it mounted out in the open like that? I typically see them placed on the kickpanel then bolted up out of the way. I know you daily drive that thing and would hate to see it snatched.

i don't daily this thing anymore, and i wanted it within reach so i could adjust if necessary. which is a good thing, cause it kicked into 6 cylinder mode for a second while i was out testing, that was strange...and they don't dip these in epoxy, so they're not water tight, and where it's at it definitey won't get wet.

yep, so far i like it. i've got the power wire hooked up to the alternator, and i'm not sure it likes the voltage fluxuations, so i'm gonna hook it up to the starter like the instructions say to, i just didn't feel like crawling under the car today. i built the exhaust system on ssean92's ride yesterday and just simply didn't feel like laying on the ground for any amount of time...oh well, guess i'll tackle that the next time i get to work on the car, since i got a new mini starter that needs to go in as well.

Re: new additions :)
hehe, yeah, but i had to do something though, cause when i put this motor together, i was all of a sudden back in the 13.4-13.6 range and that wasn't gonna work. then i trashed my 4th 700r4 in 4 years and i couldn't take it anymore. i snatched the 700r4 out in favor of this th350. then since the th350 had a transbrake, i didn't wanna kill ANOTHER 7.5", so i put this 9" in it, which was fitted with 4.56's. those two swaps with some more tuning netted me the 12.66 i have in my sig now...all with MILDLY modded 416 heads

Re: new additions :)
does the *** dyno tell you anything about your higher rpm fall out problem or did you decide that was just fuel and not spark related?
then again maybe you havent even ran it down the road so nvm if thats the case lol my bad.
i had my old 6al box on the front of my radiator cross member thing for lack of better placement seemed to work fine for over a year, didn't ever get real wet or nothing but, i'd realy rather find a better spot without having to put the box in the far rearward trunk area and fish the wiring all the way forward.
heres a pic of my old location
suppose i'll just make a mount where the charcoal cannister and cruiser control currently resides

honestly, i haven't really hammered on it, other than launching the car off the t-brake/two step to see what it does...just blitz's the drag radials

Re: new additions :)
your upper rpm problem i read about you posting sounded more fuel related than spark to me but, i'm sure that won't hurt.
hei struggles above 5k rpm or so. + u get a rev limiter with the addition which is nice. Thats basically all i bought my msd 4 because, i was afraid of misshifting when beating on it and throwing a rod through the block. I know i've sent my new 305 to 6500 rpms on accident to many times already so yah i won't run her super hard till i get my box back in

My car has been to 6500 with the stock hei and had no problems. Not saying the spark couldent be better that high rpms but the car was still pulling hard.

Re: new additions :)
i didnt say stock hei didn't work over 5k but, it doesn't have a lot of dwell when working from 1 coil which is y capacitive discharge is nice.
although an aftermarket module and coil usually is fine....
on the other hand using a box like this on a newer dis system would be about retarted imo but, to each his own.

Re: new additions :)
i had a stock HEI coil in cap setup with an accel supercoil. nothing special. just recurved the dizzy with a mr. gasket setup from the parts store to bring all the timing in quicker. this just opens doors to bigger and better things later down the road, and the revlimiters are nice to have. i'm working on getting the car setup for a big combo, just not sure what i'm gonna go with yet. it'll be gen I sbc for sure though.
the high-side problems i'm encountering are almost definitely fuel related. i'm working on that in the next couple of weeks. gonna put a 'blue pump on it with a tank with fittings in the bottom. -8 lines all the way to the front with a return style regulator. i'll get all of this stuff sorted out and be running bottom 12's soon i hope.

Re: new additions :)
What benefits have you gained since you've installed it? Does it idle smoother or anything? Is the hope that it'll give more higher RPM power due to a hotter spark?
Or is the main benefit the added features you can now access? (speaking of which, could you elaborate on what those are? Rev limiters and...? boost timing control? )

Re: new additions :)
looks good matt. when do you want to do the tank thing? also you dont really need a return regulator with the blue pump....plus when you build that 454 sbc with the tunnel ram you will need a bigger fuel line anyway lol

the return line is already on the car (aka, current feed line) and the return style regulator i'm looking at is only $70, and it just seems like a good idea all the way around.
i'm going to my buddy's in snellville sunday, and i'll likely stay there till monday morning, i could cruise by the shop monday and pick it up if that's cool with you.

if you guys don't need the 6AL for boost controllers or start retard msd also makes an HEI module with a built in rev limiter for 80 beans. save some cash protect the mill.

Re: new additions :)
ok, so i had all kinds of issues with the box cutting in and out on me. i trouble shot it best i could and spent over an hour on the phone arguing with the guys at Summit's tech department. when the guy asked me why i was running a trans brake on a street car, i about lost it. he said "what, you gonna launch the car off the two-step/transbrake in the middle of broadway?" yeah...after screwin' with different grounds and placement of 12v constant, i snatched all of it off and took it back to summit. i was fit-to-be-tied till the nice young lady at summit gave me a full refund. i proceeded to buy:
Aeromotive street strip fuel pump
20ft of -8 pushlock line
all necessary fittings
Aeromotive stree strip return style regulator
fuel system is done for now and it seems like my top-end nose-dives are taken care of. track time this saturday, we'll see

Re: new additions :)
the girl i talked to at summit on saturday said she's seen a few come back. i don't doubt the distributor is a nice piece, but i'm questioning the quality of the boxes now. i'm not really sure what i'm gonna do for spark control, but i'm thinking of doing something that gives me even more adjustability/tunability. something like an MSD digital 7, but that's outta my price range for the moment. i'm just gonna hope that my modded HEI can keep up for the moment. i'm gonna look into that little high-side revlimiter that goes into the dizzy itself.

Re: new additions :)
i'm sure with the RPMs that you're pulling that a good condition HEI with higher voltage coil will be fine even to the 10s
As for your new fuel system, I would have done -10 to the front since you're replacing things anyways. I've had my -8 on the car for 2 seasons and this past year it wasn't keeping up, so -10 it is. Sure wish I would have just gone big the first time around.

When you first posted, I wondered why you went with the Summit box instead of something like an MSD Digital 6. You don't really need to program it, do you?

i wanted it for the high end retard and all the limiters it had. just getting the car setup for bigger things later on. i don't think i'll ever be satisfied with JUST a 12 second car, or 11, or 10 second car...
Re: new additions :)
fuel system really look nice matt, glad to hear you got it together. So you are going to go to the track this sat? if so think the wife is wanting to go again.

definitely "street" car. I too think that pump should do more than what you need out of it as well.

Re: new additions :)
will that pump/-8 line give me enough volume to run a nitrous system off of it? or should i go with a dedicated tank/pump with an old blue i got layin' around for the nitrous side?
Re: new additions :)
just in case i would use ol blue and a separate line, the pump would probably do it but the line might choke it down. sorry to hear bout that junk box. some tech guys think they know it all, but their are many cars far more race than yours on the street ( think black 69 camaro at the shootout, twin whipples......) anyway I have to warn you when you get mid tens or better it starts getting serious, rules get tighter, safety is more important (well it always is) hey wanna race ? I will spot you to the 60 ft lol

how big of a shot you running? do you really need a seperate system for a 150 shot or so? On a 200+ shot i can see the benefits/safety of a dedicated system

nothing now, i think a 125shot for starters since it'll be on this motor that has hyper pistons, and while the rings where setup "loose", i don't know that they are open enough to handle a big shot. i think i've got like .040" piston ring gap...

Re: new additions :)
i would say with the 305 that the -8 line would be doable on a 100-150 shot. Just run a fuel pressure safety switch and see what happens. Buddy has the S/S pump with -8 lines in a light notch fox body and is running deep into the 10s with a 150 shot with no fuel pressure issues. IMO, if that is the path you're on though, dedicated nitrous setup, or bigger pump and -10 lines and one of those fancy big regulators that us street cars have to run now

it comes and goes about the nitrous. but everytime it comes it comes on stronger and i learn more about what i need to make the motor live on it with what i've got. we'll see how this all works....i think i need more toggle switches though, lol!
