one of those days today

out helping tune buddies car up last night until late with a garage full of gearheads, barely pops were flowing well into the night..woke up feeling miserable LOL!! got to the track, realized my personal check book was out of checks once i got to the ticket booth. looked in my wallet..i did'nt hit atm so only had $75 and entry for 1 day for $80...luckily she knows me well and i told her i'd bring it up soon as the wife got there. Went to back car out of the trailer, darn thing was on just enough of a incline-truck and trailer- so ramp angle was stepper than normal...ripped the transition strip completely off i had just installed last week to cover edge of rubber floor i put in the trailer.

first round...engine was sounding wound tight, look at tach, 7400rpm..my shift light did'nt come on grab second/third gear and by then did'nt know where i was at on the track..figured i was ahead of the game, so it turned into a pedal fest with both of us looking at eachother the last 100' or so LOL...i thought i might be breaking out so i let him take the strip...he got the win light for .0118

found chip i had in the msd shift light was bad...easy enough fix, swapped it out. buy back, knew i cut a terrible light, so i lost at both ends of the track once it was said and done...they cut us back to 1/8th mile racing since we had 20-30mph cross winds.

BUT, on the bright side, BIL's carb proved my 950 is in dire need of a rebuild, so monday she gets sent to pro system..i wanted to wait to see if carb was the culprit before dropping this kinda a change for a rebuild....best bud and i decided to go up and do a grudge race just for fun, wife got it on BIL's digital camera, so quality sucks.
got a new best 60' on this pass in vid, 1.453 so that made me happy...watching this vid on a computer first hand, i'm having a tire shake issue, so the longer torwue arm may be coming sooner than later.

Re: one of those days today

We got pulled back to 1/8mi racing since wind was terrible yesterday, last week when i was at the T&T my 60's were 1.50-1.51 and yesterday they were all 1.46? and in the 1/8mi last weekend they averaged 6.98 give or take, yesterday they were consistant 6.88...mph close to the same.

I've had race days like that. No matter how much you're prepared, you always forget something or something does wrong that you never anticipated.

Re: one of those days today

Well, was'nt planning on racing today, but woke up having my morning coffee and it was blue bird sky's, cool, but nice, so said the heck with it, towed out anyways thinking i could get my 1/4mi time slips....that was'nt to be...they made us race 1/8mi again since they were already set up for it.

car still running the same et as yesterday, so that was a plus, just had to compensate with dial for slowing track from the sun and extra tackey. got into the semi finals, 3 of us left, i already had the bye 2 rounds prior so the other fella got it. the dude i was paired with is tough. lights coming down, let go of the button...ohhhh (kept waiting for the red eye to come on since i knew i pushed it hard hard) but no red, no lit up scorboard on his side..great, we're racing get down to the finish line and i did'nt lift, he did'nt lift...his light came on..WTF??? timeslip- i had a .000RT to his .001 i ran off a bit and he ran right on.

stephen, if you have a minute, can you tell me what the distance was at the stripe between us?
EDIT: never mind, wallace calc. says 12"

Slip as follows:

ME Him
6.92dial 5.80dial

R/T's .000 .001
60' 1.505 1.293
330' 4.444 3.722
1/8mi 6.931 5.803
mph 98.61 115.12

MOV .0071

Re: one of those days today

that's the funny...but no so funny thing about mod class, the past 4 yrs has been a huge transformation in packages...used to be you could run within .02 of your dial and cut an average of a .020 light to compete. the past few years, the level has been raised soo high, that every package anymore is in the thousands of a second, literally. sure we get the few red light rounds and screw up rounds, but typically when there is a race race...it gets this tight. Box/No Box cars are one in the same anymore. and is why i'm an idiot for trying to race my street driven junk against purpose built, track only, purpose built race cars...i take pride in smacking them around, but it's the typical knife to a gun fight analogy, oh well. if i can find a digger for the right price, i'm all over it..if nothing else since they;re easier to work on LOL!!

12.3167"

Less than 1/2 the width of the front tires. Good race though. I'm never ashamed to lose a race like that. You both got good reaction times and both race real close to the dial.

Racing against someone who gets a .004 package is tough to beat when you only get a .011 package even if it was only 1/8 mile racing.

Re: one of those days today

Don't feel bad, I've drove out to the track, opened the trailer and started to unload the car when I realized I left the keys at home. Luckily I only live 20 min from the track and had the wife bring them out, lol. I don't mind losing with a close race like that instead of giving it away. Last year I lost with a -.0006 lite on the pro tree and was dead on.

OK, less than have the "diameter" of the tires. Most front tires are 26-28". At just over 12" MOV, the winner's front tires broke the finish line beams when the front of the losers tires were roughly equal the the spindle of the winners car. Providing that makes sense.

Makes you wonder if a strip taker would have worked.

I had two cars at the track this weekend, left one up there Friday/Saturday nights, drove the other one to & from. This evening, after the racing was over, I packed up and drove the '57 home. My wife drove me right back up to the track (~6 miles one way) to pick up the Camaro, and by the time we got there, the gates were locked up.

Hope it doesn't rain tonight. The windows are half-way open on the Camaro.

Then there's the stories about the critters that roam around there at night. . .

A couple of years ago there was an ET race where both racers had the same RT, same difference between ET and their dial-in (it was a double break-out, IIRC), and the slip showed .0000 MOV but one had the win arrow. The track explained that ET is calculated to .xxxx but truncated (I think - might be rounded) to .xxx on the timeslip; MOV is printed out to .xxxx, but the computer will actually take MOV out several more places if necessary. MOV is measured directly off the two finish line beams, not calculated from ET (except in the case of a break-out).
