I know this migh tbe hard to answer but im looking into getting a new car and need some help

the car has 40 passes on the motor and 20 passes on the trans

is this ok and will the motor and trans last or does this throw up red flags

just need some help because im new to this stuff

also the motor has forged internals and aluminum heads

We will need all the specs of the motor how fast is the car? On a typical bracket racer you will be fine. A heads up car that runs in the 7s may need some maint.

 

no this car has run a best of 11.38 so i should be fine?

 

Yes you will be fine do a compression and leak down test on the motor. Look at the tranny fluid and rear dif look for metal and to see if the tranny fluid is burnt.

my last motor had over 400 passes on it and 10k street miles . plus at least 150 of them were on spray. 3 years of racing. when i pulled it apart to ck it , everything was fine. it ran 11.4 on motor and 10.3 on spray. i put the moser rear end in in 2002 , built the trans in 04. all i have done to them is change oil.

to me that sounds like it is just broke in.

 

my old 388 had over 1800 passes and 5-6K street miles on the entire combination, was still running great but the crank snout broke off...alternator and pulley set up problem more than anything else, so with those low a passes i would'nt be scared in the least...heck, i just put on more than that in the last weekend racing and previous weekend 1 day test and tune.

Ross gave good advise, compression and leak down test, trans fluid check, rear diff oil check, but if it is new gears, expect some metal shavings...you can get a cutter and peel open the oil filter since this will show exactly what's going on inside the engine with the bearings...if you see big chunks of copper, budget for a new engine..if just tiny speckles of metal..that's normal for a new engine.

40/20...not even broke in yet LOL!!

 

my 158K mile motor had like over 20 passes on it and countless 'passes' on the street held up great

if yours was fresh and has done 40 passes with some oil changes between, your fine or should be fine
