Freezing day at Atco Raceway. Drove all the way to Cecil County to find out they closed it.. . Anyway....had to drive all the way to Atco

The track was cold and the 1st pass was through the crappy mufflers and with 25 lbs in the 10 year old borrowed E.T. streets. I just wanted to make sure it went down the track and didnt want to break it on the first run.
Went 13.2 @ 119 with a 2.6 60' just roasting the tires.

Seconed pass I uncapped the exhaust, put the E.T streets at 12lbs and did a better burn out. Still not trying to break the rear I launched from dead idle and spun them a bit to the tune of a 1.80 60'.
went 11.35 @ 122 mph.

I completely motored by the car next to me like it was a mini van. He is also a good friend of mine who usualy goes 11.70's but had issues. very nice '92

I will post a video in a minute.

My combo: 383, 10.8:1 CR, 65 cc AFR 195's, Comp Hydro Flat tappett cam
(241-246@ .050 and .537/.540 lift with 1.6 rockers.) victor Jr, BG 750, hooker 2210's, msd Dist. T-350 with 3200 stall and built stock rear with 4.10 gears. E.T. streets from the 2001. 1986 Sport coupe. (I think It's light)

Re: First time out with 383 Sport Coupe.
No LsX. I wish. I signed up years ago and had a couple camaros at the same time. I wish I could change that name.

The trans is a Turbo 350 with foward manual valvebody.

Heres pictures and a video from the track..

I think putfile operates off a 56k modem. Downloads are always slow.

Re: First time out with 383 Sport Coupe.
To be honest with you. The tach isn't working well. I think the ground is not suitable. I couldn't really tell. Also, it was also really hairy at the top end with body sway, hood shake and it was pulling pretty hard. My guess is that it was peaking at a good spot to come up with those type of numbers. I'm gonna get hood pins and a good fix for the swaying body over the winter and get it back out.

Thanks for the compliments.

Put a set of drag radials under it. Car will run as if it were on rails.

thats moving! nice 383 setup you have there. I'm surprised your doing 11.3's at 122 on that 1.8 60 foot. I cant get any better than 11.47 at 118.5 with a 1.55 60! That car must pull very hard on the top end

Re: First time out with 383 Sport Coupe.
I am thinking about a set of radials because I need new tires anyway and I do drive the car about three times a week on the street. I realize that people are going unbelievable #'s on radials but do you think I could hook them up? For suspension I have 90/10's, 50/50's, and spohn adj. T/A. The car seems to transfer weight pretty well but the E.T streets were far from sticky.

Orr, To be honest I am really suprised the car performed that well myself.

It has a Flat Tappett cam, no MSD box, runs at 200', timing set at 34', stock tank with street gas and 3/8 line and the battery is not in the trunk. Only thing I can say is it must be light and I think it performs dead in is power range with the gears/converter/cam. I really was hpoing for a 11.50-11.60 at 118. Those were my expectations because I can tell the cars fast because it burns the street tires up at 50 MPH in the top of second gear. IT pulled really hard down the track. That black 92 Z left a car length ahead of me and I had about 4-5 on him at the end.

Anyway, I figure it needs a cage, 5 point harness and some new DR's and I would like to see the E.T come down with a real 60'.

After that It's getting a 250 shot because thats actually what I built the motor for in the begining. What do you think It will go?

For automotive stuff, videos.streetfire.net is probably the best. If you have HD video, www.vimeo.com

Re: First time out with 383 Sport Coupe.
VERY clean car! It looks like the headers hang the lowest under the car. Maybe put a little bit taller front tire under it? As for drag radials, I run 275/60-15 MT's. My car leaves pretty well, 1.536 sixty foot so far. I'm taking it to a private track rental soon and expect it to do some sub 1.5 sixty foots now that we have some nice weather.

I bet with traction your MPH kicks up and you break into the 10's with ease.

That would be nice. I'm happy with the 11.30 so any thing better is just bonus. I will try these tires probably the begining of next season just because I have them but will definelty grab the same tires you have and hope they work.

Orr89rocZ, I have been following your 383 build for a while and thinking theres no way my car will run as fast as that. I was kind of bummed about it actually. like I said, It must be the weight or lack thereof on my part

Maybe, but my car isnt super heavy either, 3450 with me in it give or take 10lbs depending on fuel in the tank. My stealth ram may not be making the power a vic jr would. That was a goal of mine over winter to try a converted efi victor setup but i'm not doing that anymore. Got new plans

Your setup is doing well.

Re: First time out with 383 Sport Coupe.
Excellent example!
I'm building a Sport Coupe to replace my IROC-Z.
What type of exhaust do you use? When you "uncork", what's the setup?
Great numbers at the track.
As far as weight goes, between the IROC with its t-tops, power windows and gfx and a SC with none of the above I can see a couple of hundred pounds and may be a couple of tenths.

Thanks I was hesitant on the whole Sport coupe thing. I really like Irocs and
'91 '92 cars. However, this car has made me realize that I like pretty much like every Camaro 1982-92.

The exhaust is made for street use, which is sees more of than track time, it gets reduced to 2.5 inches that runs through(over) the spohn X-member and into 2.5 inch cutouts. After that it runs into 2 two chamber Flowmasters and over each axle and dumps out by the rear bumper pretty nicely.
I've already made plans to change the Flows for some stainless magnaflows which I understand to be much quieter and straight through for much better flow. The reason I chose the 2.5 inch exhaust is because it fits through the x-member and gives awesome ground clearence and also it seems to be quieter for the neighborhood I live in. If you heard it you would say it's quiet just driving around.

When you take the caps off the cutouts it's just like open headers but a bit quieter. I love it for the track.
