1/8th track times
well these are kinda old from when i ran back in the fall with my old setup. was kinda dissapointed but then sat down and thought about what all was off still and didnt feel so bad. anyway jw what some of you guys think "i could have done" with more converter and some carb/timming tunning.
car is 82 t/a 305 030 over summit 1103 cam 1.6 rr shaved 416's performer intake and 600 carb. hedman lts 2 1/2 true duals no cats no x or h pipe with flowmaster 10series dumped. th350 shftkit stock converter ls1 alum ds 3.73's and i ran on my 17's with 275/40/17 kuhmo escta supra tires.
cant find slips got to look around but here is what i can remember
best et was 9.7 mph 77or78 with like a 2.34 60'. no tirespin on take off just bog then would pick up and pull hard spin when hit second for about 10-15ft.
the carb jetting was way off it had the stock rods and primary jets but the secondarys were .100 cant remeber what springs it had. no clue on what timming i was running my light broke and had no way to shoot it while there. this setup is coming out sometime in may for my new 383 but i think if i would of had a good converter and some good sticky tires tunning and a lil suspension work some mid to high 8's wouldve been possible. what do you guys think?
p.s just got bored and decided to post about my runs.
mainly out of curiosity

Not bad for what it is. I have had stock TBI 350s run those numbers.

Re: 1/8th track times
it needed a converter BAD it wouldnt idle in gear at lights. i had a 2800 converter in it but could only get it to flash to 2200 so i waped it for the one thats in it now that i was told was a 3000 from the previous owner of the car and well it turned out to be stock. i decided i wasnt gona change it back since the motor was getting replaced anyway. i changed the rets and springs in the car a few weeks later and i noticed a large improvment in the butt dyno but no track times.

Re: 1/8th track times
my TPI 305 runs a few tenths quicker, wish i knew what cam was in it, but i've got a 700 that won't shift and 3.73 gears, but i pull a 2.0x 60ft on street tires most nights. those edelbrock carb's aren't horrible, but just a little bit of tuning can go a long way. just a jet change got my car from 8.6 to 8.4

Re: 1/8th track times
Sounds like you are using older 2 piece seal blocks. Look for a newer 1 piece rear seal block if that is the case.

that sucks, i'm gonna be throwing together some junk soon, should run mid 7s and then mid 6s on the jug, maybe faster if i get rolling on the new motor

Re: 1/8th track times
My cousin is running a .060 over motor on the street and is making around 500+ hp and has had no problems. I just ran my motor yesterday which is a .060 over as well and I have a stock radiator and electric fan setup with a temp switch I believe at 185 and sitting in my yard running it for about 15-20 mins of idling, reving, and holding it at a 2000-3000 rpms for some time it never went above 190ish. I also have a 160 degree stat. I myself wouldnt worry about the .060 on the street especially if you had an aftermarket radiator and fans. My 2 cents, hopefully it help in your pursuit of a block.

Well im sure i would be alright to run 060 but it would bother me lol. Just something about me finaly getting around to throwing some high dollar parts into a max bored block. Ive already got two virgin bore 350s im about to tare down this weekend anyway and a guy at work is gony but that 040 over block from me to use as a spare for his circle track car and the heads off one are already sold so basicly ive got two free motors.

Re: 1/8th track times
Well it is only a 305. Your 9.7 is roughly a 15.13 in the 1/4 so that's not too bad. To get a 8.99 in the 1/8, your car would need to run a 14.0 in the 1/4. That gives you a rough idea what kind of an increase you'll need. Sometimes it can be easier to make the car lighter than it is to make more HP. Get that 60' time down into the low 2.x range.
A simple 100-150 shot of NOS would get you into the 8's providing you can get traction.
