The track we run at had our last race of the season Saturday. Is it just me or is the season coming to an end always kind of a downer? Unloaded the car yesterday, fixing to get it up on jack stands and start tinkering with it in the off season. Went out in the first round Power braked a little hard after staging and rolled forward. I was sure I rolled out of the beams, looked up to see if I had and I hadn't but by then the tree was coming down and I cut an abysmal light (.111) This after having cut a beautiful .004 light in time trials. On the bright side, the old worn out hooptie ran a best ever 8.89 (1/8th mile). I know it's slow compared to what a bunch of ya'll are running but I was proud of it. Anyway, here's to next year

Winter time = Silly season.

I don't get back on track until hopefully mid May. Our last track day was the last weekend in September, then the cold weather hit. We've had snow up to and including the last weekend in May. 8 months downtime between seasons sucks but at least the parts last longer. The 2 year seat belt certification really sucks considering after 2 years, mine are still almost new because of the short race seasons.

 

Ahhhh yes....if we shut down here in Texas, it is only for a month or so, the 1/4(Baytown) will shut for 2 months max and the 1/8th(Houston) usually doesnt close, but it has 2 times, once was for a month for the cold and the other was to re do the track.

 

No more big events, but here in NorCal, we do TNT all the way thru winter (weather permitting) Theres even a New Years Day Race.

 

Our last race was last Saturday, postponed from the previous weekend because of cold weather (it was in the 70's last weekend).

I had my butt handed to me by a rookie who ran a 0.009 package in the 2nd round of the trophy class, and had a rotten RT in the 3rd round of Pro to end my season. Always a downer to end the year with a loss (which has been the case all but once in my racing life).

I can't complain about the year, though. I went nuts running in a bunch of classes, total of 9 by the time the buxom soprano performed the aria. But, at the track awards banquet next month, I'll be tripping up to the stage 7 times (and probably another, non-class award - won't know about that until the time comes). The win light came on in my lane 171 times this year.

I've got Berlinetta #2 to finally get together over the winter (so I can run in a stick shift class), and I'm going to spiff up the Berlinetta #1 so it can run in Pro next year while the '57 goes under the knife.

 

Only thing to look forward to in the off season is tinkering with the car. Which brings us to the next thing: What improvements does everyone have planned for the off season? For me, it's line lock (sick of weak brakes after burn out), ratchet shifter (racing with the stock shifter blows goats) and 150 shot of nitrous (if I blow up the 305 I can tell Amy I HAVE to buy a bigger motor)

Upgraded Vortec heads, Stealth intake, higher stall converter, probably 3.73 gears, and if I can do it the way I want to, 2210 headers. Since the '57 will be out of service, the 2-step MSD Digital 6 will go into Berlinetta #1 for the time being.

No spray, it's got hypereutectic pistons.
