Stephen..converting to manual steering
Stephen..converting to manual steering
Stephen,
I noticed on your website that you converted to manual steering using a manual box from a s10 pick up. I am removing the power steering from my camaro and was wondering if you just need the steering box itself or if I would need to take other parts from the s10 to do the conversion?
Any help would be appreciated

I've done the swap myself, and I got mine from an S10 (I actually think he got his from an S15) and I also grabbed it with the pitman arm, but he kept the original one I believe...so no, it's a really simple swap

You can use the S10/S15's pitman arm but the angle is slighty different. I put the camaro's pitman arm on the manual box. There's nothing else you need. Remove everything to do with the power steering and bolt the manual box on. The steering shaft will bolt right up to it.

For street use I have no idea. I wouldn't recommend it if you have wide 16" rims up front. The manual box has more mechanical advantage than a power box so it takes more turns stop to stop. I have no problems driving around in the pits. If you're not moving and have to turn the wheels you can't do it with one finger.
Since my camaro is on the street quite often, once the car is in motion, the wheel is relatively as easy to turn as with a power steering box...the only difficulty is just turning it with it stopped, but even then it's not that bad.
Forgot to add that I'm only running 215's on 15" wheels, so the less tire is also helping out with the turning
