question about a burnout
Okay, in the new HOT ROD (with the yellow chevelle on the cover) they have an article in the middle about a vintage dragstrip. anyway as the question goes, the middle page shows a dodge/chrysler doing a burnout. but this is no ordinary burnout, there is a nice fire behind the car, and it appears that it is coming off of the track after the tires.
in the article it tells something about VHT would VHT explode into a fireball after a burnout or what is this substance that does the fireball.
I can make smoke, but I would be the only one at my high school that can make a fireball burnout.
Any help wiht my query?

Fire burnouts are done with gasoline. NHRA banned them many years ago when too many cars caught fire.
VHT is non flamable. VHT is a traction compound that they spray on the starting line. If you go up and walk on it, you'll find that your shoes will stick very easily. When you race at a track that uses very little VHT (it's expensive), your 60 foot times suck even when using slicks.
You don't do a burnout in VHT. Burnouts are done in water.

Read the article again. They said they put both gas and VHT on the track. The VHT is sticky so the car bites and moves away from the fireball as it ignites. Its very dangerous and "dont try this at home."

Okay on Chevy High Perf they had red smoke, now I think that they did it in computer, but i also know that certain chemicals burn at differend colors.
could they have put down a powder that burns red?

Now this may sound like an "okie" way of doin' this(well it is!), but I know that if your pour Automatic Tranny Fluid(ATF) on the street as you do a burnout, it will catch on fire. I have had no probs with my car cathin' fire(thank God). But, this is a great looking thing to do, but it doesn't add a drop of horsepower or make you any quicker, I just like it!
