You have 170 HP, he has 260 HP. You run 16.0, he runs 14.0, in the 1/4 mile. You're not going to do it without a lot of mods. Check the TBI forum.

My advice to you would be 3 ways.

1.The easy less expensive,and more sensible.Sell car,take most of the money put down on a good running 89-92 5.7 G92 IROC or Z28.(around $4K)Spend about $500 in mods($300 Torque converter,100 shiftkit,$90 tuneup,$10 miscellaneus free mods.See $20K Mustang at light,step on gas and smoke.
2.spend about $3000 to mod your TBI
3.spend about $4000 on a crate moter and used TPI.
I'm not knocking your RS,they are good cars, but I dont understand why some people buy them to go fast.Sure it can be done, but why put in upwards of $3000 in parts on a $2500-$3000 car that will still be worth about $3000?

302's are better than 305's.

With exhaust and a torque converter a 90-92 5.7L f-body should beat a 99+ Mustang GT.

I did.My best friend has a 99GT 5spd.The only mods I had done to my GTA were an SLP torque converter,SLP shiftkit,Mobil 1 ATF,Mobil 1 oil,SLP Wires(had them from my IROC),Bosch plugs, new module, coil cap & roter,8 deg.timeing, ported plenum,t-body coolant bypass hose,K&N air filter,oh and an SLP flowbooster. He had a K&N.I would always take him off the line and about the first 1/8 mile.He started to catch me after that and I dont know if he would have taken me in the quarter. He did used to beat me on the highway(but only by alittle though)Now he's got 3.73's and an H-pipe,but I still beat him with the mods I have now street or highway.

i have the best way to beat him and cheapest go get one of the vavle stem tools from walmart or a parts store and loosen the valve inside the valve stem and flatten his tires. hehe just kidding if you really like your car and want to swap engines i would suggest a crate for easy installation and they arent that bad of a deal plus they come with warranties. or if you like to do things your self build you own engine and use either TBI or TPI which ever you like best TINFY

I raced a 99 GTS yesterday at the track. He managed a 15.08 to my 305s 14.9.

Maybe he couldn't drive, I dunno.

If someone only got a 15.0 out of a 99GT they need to seriously think about takeing some driving courses.

Why pay 4000 for a new TBI motor when Gm just came out with a new 350hp,400torque ram jet that is a easy swap and you can pick that up for 4200 plus installation... I put on exhaust and a chip with a 160 thermo and ram air and i came close to beating a stock 99 gt... 0-60 and in quarter we weren't more then a second off.

I have an 82 Trans Am that had a 305 and just put close to $3000 in the engine but whenever someone pulls up next to me and says to his friends "Watch this" as the light changes and all he sees is my tail lights then what can I say even though it isn't going to be sold for what I got in it why and when would I sell it if I wanted to put the new engine in it? If I wanted to get a fast car that I could sell again then the better choice would have been a newer one but I know I will have it for another 5 or six years and just play with it.

Um,the 99+Mustang GT's are far from a slow car.My best friend ran 13.9@101 with just his silencer out, a K&N,and 18 inch Nittos in 80 deg.weather.Go check out the mustang board, they are mid 13 second cars with gears and tires. If you ever drove one you'll see what I mean, they have such snappy throttle response and dont run out of breath.i have alot more respect for those cars than the 96-98 4.6's.You must be racing the automatic ones or sticks that the people cant drive, and ther is no way a 95 V6 stang will beat a 99+ unless it has a supercharger, cam, and heads.

I beat one on the street, and one at the track. The 99+s w/ their 260hp are much faster than the older 4.6s (non cobra). The 99 at the track was running a solid 4-5 tenths faster than the stock 5.0 5spd Stangs that were there...

Ditto, The 99' - current stang's (v-6 and v-8's) are quite a bit faster than pre 99. I almost bought a new 5 speed stang early last year. Then I decided to save $16,000 and buy my GTA. No regrets!!

black5.7GTa I believe you beat a Stock 99GT with An SLP TC, Shiftkit, ignition, ported plenum, Aftermarket Chip, SLP package and K&N. I am talking about just a tuneup and TC. Besides you say he catches up to you. When someone says smoke another car I think that as beating a car by over half a second in the Quarter.

Mike 92,I am talking about on the street,at a stoplight, and from a slight roll.I did it more than once with just those mods.I would take him off the line, have about a car on him, then he would start to inch closer, then we would stop because of COPS!He did used to pull on me alittle on the highway though.I never raced him at the track so,I dont know what would have happened.Around that time he did show me his 13.9@101 timeslip with just a K&N and 18 inch (street) Nittos,so he can drive.I was G-teching a best of 13.8@102 with the mods I already listed and an SLP catback, thats it.Thats quite possibly a 13.7@100 at the track.I added the rest of the stuff later, and stopped racing him from a dead stop, due to my worsened traction.I would beat him worse from a roll though, hold on to it,leave him,and beat him on the highway. Now he has 3.73's and an H-pipe(no cats) and Flowmasters, and its alot closer on the street, but I am confident in saying a well tuned 89-92 dualcat 350 TPI with just a good torque converter, shift kit, traction, and free mods, can beat a 99+GT from a stoplight and the 1/8mile(about a 8.8@77,a 99+GT is about a 9.0-9.1),and possibly the 1/4.(13.8@99 to 13.9-14.1 GT)

I messed with a 99 GT conv, probably a 2-valve, with my 97 Tahoe and he never pulled away from me until 104 mph when my limiter came on. I think they are really slow. I can't wait for my TTA to go back on the road.

Now guys, I know about 99% of you people are Ford haters...but somebody has to stick up for them. I know they're the reason that our F-bodies are a dying breed and they're the reason for GM discontinuing the F-bodies...but still, I think our bigger enemy is across the ocean. Anyways, I'm not saying that any of you hasn't beaten a 99 GT, all I wanna say is that you gotta give Ford credit for making a 14.0 sec car out of only 260 hp. A fully loaded GT convertible with an AUTOMATIC tranny is still running 14.6, I think. The LT-1 had 275 (285) hp and stock performance was only 14.4. (note: I'm not sure if the 14.4 was auto or manual, sounds like an auto to me) anyways, dont underestimate them, if the driver knows what he's doing, then they CAN be a threat if lightly modded. And they ARE a lot cheaper than F-bodies with base GTs starting at 23k, while Camaros start around 25k. Now I know what ya'll are gonna say..a stock LS-1 with a 6 speed and minor mods is capable of 12's. and thats true, i've seen it, but do you know how hard it is to work on those d@mn engines halfway underneath the dash? I cant stand it. Well i've about said enough to get me banned from thirgen, lol. I'll shut up now....I still LOVE F-bodies and hate imports!

When I was stock, and very out of tune (needed a tune up) I had the chance to race a 2001 navy blue Mustang GT. He drafted me for a while and decided to pass me. I hit it, he hit it and he passed me

However, once we reached speeds in excess of 80mph I started to pull away from him fairly easy.

I can't wait to find him now
Actually, I look for him

by the way, I wouldn't underestimate the new GTs, they are pretty quick. Sure, they are no LS1, but they're faster than any regular production 3rd gen.

They're not my prey anymore, the C5 is. Oh yes...I am coming..I am coming....I am coming...justice will be done

if you go to the DSI Racing page on my sig you can see video of my LO3 beating a brand new 2001 GT. they do not run 14.0 as some have said and it ain't hard to get a tbi motor to go faster than them for far less than they spent on their cars, with no power adder and the stock cam still in place.

Your right not all 99+GT's will run atleats a 14.0.The automatics run 14.3-14.5.I would hate to see some of you guys underestimating these cars, and one blows your doors off. Go to

my friend has a 99TA 6 speed lightly modded with headers and usual bolt ons and 3.73 gears. he runs mid 12s. he raced a 99 or 00 stang on the street and said he was suprised at how well it kept up. he beat it but it suprised him. the new mustangs are definetly much better than the old ones and they respond to mods very well like the 5.0 did. so yes know your enemy. I just thought you guys might wanna know. Two weeks ago a white Mustang GT it looked like a 96-98( icould never tell the difference) picked on me. I was waiting for a light when he pulled next to me. i knew he would kill me with my bonestock LO3. he would not let go of my side then at cruising speed then he punched it and so did i.i was so freaking surprised that i kept up with him, not even half a car. Then in the stop he left me behind more than a cars lenght, less than i thought he would. My point is that it is possible to beat this cars with our 3rd gens.
By the way i had three people in my car he was alone in a convertible with some kind of after market exhaust(it sounded loud).

Mustangs are not bad, I have two of them along with my TTA and Tahoe. the 93 GT conv, with just exhaust, went 13.97. The red 91 ran 10.97 2 weeks ago (don't tell anyone on V-Street) and the TTA will run mid 11's and should be back on the road soon.

The enemy is not the domestics, it's the imports buzzing around.

Ummm, The stangs are not the reason that the F-bod's are being axed. That is the General's (GM) fault. Sorry, I just couldn't let that slide.

YEAH I HATE MUSTANGS TOO, BUT I GOTTA RESPECT THEM. I DON'T THINK THEY ARE AS GOOD OF CARS AS CAMAROS, BUT THEY ARE OK. I AGREE WITH THEFORMULA. I HATE CORVETTES AND THE RICH FARTS THAT DRIVE THEM. I HAVE RACED AND BEAT MANY LATE 70'S AND EARLY TO MID 80'S VETTES AND STOMPED EVERY ONE OF THEM. YOU GUYS SHOULDA SEEN THE LOOK ON A GUY WHO HAD A 78 ANNIVERSARY EDITION WHEN I RIPPED HIM A NEW *** !! THE NEW ONES ARE FAST, BUT I STILL HATE THEM. THEY ARE UGLY!!

-THEFORMULA- I think your wrong about a 99 GT beating any stock thirdgen. Like i said in my post before my friend has a 99 GT with a 5 speed. When we were both stock i beat him by about a car or so( I whopped him on the bottom end but than started to catch up on top but it wasnt enough ). I had 98500 or so in my car with absutly nothing moded to my car at all and neither did he with his 1680 or so miles. I think any properly tuned Third gen with the L98 can beat a 99 GT. Dont get me wrong I dont think all L98's will win but its a good race no mattter what.
