first time at track w/ new engine

I ran 3 passes just wanted to get a ballpark figure of what it would do. I have the timing at 10* and fuel pressure set at 46. Keep in mind this motor was built very mild to keep it streetable. All the runs were made with the speaker box, spare tire and tools in the back.

first run--trans in drive
reaction--.610
60ft--2.006
330 ft--5.794
ET @ 594 ft 8.390
1/8 ET--8.961
1/8 MPH--78.81
1000' ET--11.655
1/4 ET--13.983
1/4 MPH--94.53

second run--trans in drive
reaction--.531
60ft--2.618
330 ft--6.662
ET @ 594 ft 9.303
1/8 ET--9.890
1/8 MPH--76.68
1000' ET--12.583
1/4 ET--14.892
1/4 MPH--100.03
big traction problem here

third run--shift manually
reaction--.585
60ft--1.953
330 ft--5.702
ET @ 594 ft 8.284
1/8 ET--8.850
1/8 MPH--79.51
1000' ET--11.523
1/4 ET--13.819
1/4 MPH--99.79

My trans shifts way to early in drive(like 4000).I need to play with the weights and springs in the governor to get it right. I need get a stall converter, rear gears and some sort of slicks and I think this car will run as long as remember to remove the crap in the back of the car. So what do you guys think?

I think your tranny and converter are your biggest drawbacks from being a good car. Gearing will help a bit but you already have traction problems on the start line because of the low first gear in the 700R4.

When I had my 383 I was running 11.8's with 3.27 gears and 26" tall slicks. I was using a TH350 with a 3800 stall converter too and crossed the finish line at 117 mph.

The best thing to do is manually shift the 700R4. Over rev first gear so that when it goes to second gear, the rpms are down to the bottom of the power curve not way below it. Shift to third at your red line. If everything is set up correctly you should be just about to shift to fourth "OD" as you cross the finish line. That will be the best indication if you need more gear.
