Re: the 305 is still alive!
lol, yup. we're hoping just to get it back into the 12's at the moment. this car has a powerglide and 8" 4000 stall converter by ATI with a set of 4.10's in a 10 bolt. this car is a touch heavier than mine was when it was running at it's best (3170lbs going down the racetrack, this car is about 3300lbs). given the SLR is much lower than my car also (1.80x4.10=7.38 in this car vs 2.52x4.56=11.49 in my car) so it'll 60' a bit slower, but i'm thinking 12.8's in some decent air should be doable.

Re: the 305 is still alive!
I wish you would have ran the snot out of your car with a 4.8 after the 305, just to see how a 4.8 would do. I will be running one in a s10 probably in the future.

Not sure what it would take to get exactly that from a 4.8, lol.

Re: the 305 is still alive!
closest i could probably get would be an ls1 piston on the end of a 4.8 rod/crank combo. that's 310", and is exactly what my old 305 was (.030" over 305 is a 310")...hmmm...i have a 4.8 shortblock that needs to go to the machine shop...

Lol, that's what I was thinking. I will do a 7800 rpm 4.8 in the future.

holley street dominator intake p/n 300-36
comp pro mangum 1.52:1 roller rockers
hedman longtubes, dual 2.5" exhaust with flowmaster knockoffs (summit "welded chambered" mufflers), would be better with a better flowing muffler

Re: the 305 is still alive!
well we were able to make it out to the track on friday! it was much slower than i thought it would be, but still very repeatable. my dad had a BLAST though, which is really all that mattered.
first pass off the trailer was a 13.88 @ 98 on a 1.99 60'. the car weighs in at 3345 with my dad in the car. the powerglide and 4.10's are not helping it any at all, it really needs a th350 and 4.56's to see the kind of times my car ran with this engine.
second pass was a 13.86 @ 98, again on a 1.99 60', and a "double-oh-3" light, after 7 years of not going down a race track!
we put a little more fuel to it, and it ran a 13.80 @ 99 on a 1.99 60', lol!
so we let the car cool some, and my little brother wanted to line them up with my dad. so they lined up, and my dad did a weak burnout. jack tree'd him .035 to an .052...and dad spun to a 2.17 60', lol. but he ran around him pretty quick and ran a 14.00 @ 99mph to jack's 15.3x @ 94mph.
all in all we had a great time and i got some OK pictures too. we'll see about getting it faster in a bit, but right now it's more or less a stress reliever for my dad.

Glad to see the old 305 in action again. Its always interesting to see your old engines in other cars. The guy that bought my 305 put it in a barn and never used it. My old 383 was put into a Nova and is still running strong.

Re: the 305 is still alive!
oh yeah for sure man. it was really cool seeing these two cars go down the track duking it out since i basically built both in their current states. they both have SO much potential if the owners would spend some money on supporting mods to get down the track more efficiently...jack's car needs a converter/gear/tire/tune in a bad way. he's been as fast as 99mph, but no way to accelerate any faster with stock converter/2.73's, lol

Races between family and friends for bragging rights are a blast. Sucks when you lose though because you never hear the end of it.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like everyone had a good time out for " family day "
Nice!!
Nice!!
Re: the 305 is still alive!
...till you throw more parts at it through the week & rematch the following weekend......lol. - That seems to be the biggest factor in starting a car's evolution.

Re: the 305 is still alive!
Hey Matt. On your old car combo when the lil 305 ran 108+mph what did it trap at? (RPM)
I believe even that car did not have enough gear in it.
The lil 280H cammed 305 needs to trap at over 7000rpm.
And should have had 5.13's with the tall slicks.
So with the glide and heavier car it will need
to be trapping at 8000+rpm, to get a good launch, ET and 60ft times
some 6.50:1 gears.
(based on 105MPH and 28" tires)
If you switch to a turbo trans you would want at least 5.13 gears for the heavier car. Time for a solid lifter cam and some stiff valve springs.
The 4000 stall converter will be much more efficient once the car is geared.
Ya really got to buzz it thru the traps when using a glide.
Great to see the lil 305 that could, has been resurrected. Time for 6.50 gears so it can be all it can be w/ the glide.
how high will it buzz up now? (with open exhaust) (valvetrain limit rpm)
