Wrecked Drag Car

I am looking for a drag car that has been wrecked or just put on the back burner. I am looking for one that has the whole frame and drive drain hardware. The car itself doesnt matter. I just need to put the parts on my car to start my build and I am on a very limited budget!!!
I was told that I would need a bracket for my turbo 400 tranny, and a ladder bar setup, a new rear end that is prefabbed for my car, and all the brackets and frame rails, shocks, and other hardware.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but I am in need and I know that there has to be a car out there that is what I am looking for that I can afford.

If you can help, either PM me or call 336=409=8877

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way my car is and 88 Camaro...completely stock (for now).

www.racingjunk.com

Not sure how many parts cars you're going to find but it's probably the best source.

Re: Wrecked Drag Car

I tried racing junk, but to be honest, I don't really know what all I am looking for. That is one of the reasons that I was looking for a wrecked or junked 3rd gen.....cause I know those parts will bolt in....lol!!

If you can wait and save money up,the drag racer's auction is a good place to pick up a drag car. It's held at Indy over Thanksgiving wkend and is the biggest best auction on the east coast.Buy a roller from there.

Re: Wrecked Drag Car

I did ladder bars for a number of years. It was the easiest way to put a 9" under the car without having to buy a direct bolt in diff and use the third gen's torque arm suspension system. Ladder bars still require floor modifications because the third gen's diff sits so high up in the body.

Until you start going really fast, the torque arm system works fine. Upgrade to aftermarket components.

I eventually did a back half on my car to stuff huge tires under the fenders. A 4-link system is the way to go but it's not for the budget minded.

Finding a roller is probably the best way to go. Somebody elses car, complete without engine and/or transmission. All the work is already done. It might be costly to buy but will be a lot cheaper in the long run. I could have bought 3 rollers for what I invested in my car over the last 10+ years.

Re: Wrecked Drag Car

get a good drag car book. and start reading,
you going to run into alot of onfo on the net, most of it goofy stuff guys post, has to what they like, what they dont like, dont mean its the truth, (same stuff in a few books) so get a few.

see what the nice looking, fast cars are running.
and running for more then a few years (10 or more years)

and some guys like lader bar set ups, and pay money for a aftermarket 9" rears for the 3rd gen for a true bolt in,..then add ladder bar set ups,
(spending money when you have it)

Its all about, what you want to run, what works and what you like.

right now there are a few camaro rollers for sale under $9000 with $15.000 in parts on them..just shop..

like ALKY posted above and 1Gary Has posted in the past.
the best buy would to be a car/roller. With the work 90% to 100% Done.
Much less cost. and more fun to start with.

dropping $8000 for a car finnished, and then adding $12.000 for a eng and tranny and running 9s back to back, IS cheaper.. then starting from scratch!

edit : to add.
you will need a 2nd car for driving in the week to and from work.... the one car do it all thing is out!! when you want to go Fast!

Re: Wrecked Drag Car

The auction cuts both ways.KNOWING what to look for and KNOWING what is costs to build is huge. The reading that was suggested is what you need to do.You need to get there early Friday and take down lot numbers of cars/parts that are interesting to you and find out when they are going to be sold.Never bid from your seat on stuff you haven't looked at and set a price that you are willing to pay.Best time to buy is early Friday or late Sunday.Auction fever from the crowds is late Friday and almost all of Sat.You yourself don't get caught up in the auction fever.

Side note guys:it is also a good place to thin the herd of cars you want to sell and then buy something else.Rollers are likely the best to sell there.Turn key cars do go over the the block, but those are mostly high dollar cars.So if you want to make a move up,it might be the place to be able to do that.A tip here is we used to be able to buy SBC parts at a circle track auction at SYR,NY one week before and then sell them at the Indy auction one week later tripling our money. The markets are that much different.

Lastly-don't go there with 500 bucks and expect to be a player. But aleast go for the week end to get a feel for what you can do.Also that is a first class place to make contacts for sources for parts from vendors.
