Video: My very first run with the LS2 and first time racing a stick at the track

This was the first time ever racing a stick car at the track, and also happened to be my first run with my car since the swap was done 3 yrs ago. I don't count the last time (the REAL first time) because I broke the stock rear in the burnout box and had to trailer it home.

Anyways, burned the tires through 1st gear and got a 1.8 60ft and ran a 12.15 @ 116.

Not bad for a rookie that's never launched his car. Honest to God I've not even tried launching it on the street before so this was a completely new experience for me. I hope to be able to dead hook and hit a 11.8x. I had to re-stage 3 times on this run because the guy at the track kept forgetting to reset the tree. So my tires weren't heated up from my burnout by the time I actually launched.

Sounds like a solid upper 11s setup. Im sure its heavy. Remember..the clutch or tire has to slip a bit with the stickshift. What tire were you using?

Re: Video: My very first run with the LS2 and first time racing a stick at the track

Nevermind..saw theyre mickeys. 15psi is probably a good start...remember to keep burnout short..2nd gear count to 3 and drive out. Im sure youll have traction issues at anything above 2500 rpm launch. Stickshifts are hard on those rear tires!!!

Nice combo though..the ms4 is a nice cam

Re: Video: My very first run with the LS2 and first time racing a stick at the track

I have the burnout in a seperate vid. It was in 2nd gear but I dont really remember how long it was. On that pass I had to stage four times due to the tree not resetting so my burnout was virtually null and void.

I launched around 5,000 with no slipping, just let it eat.

Car is a beached whale at 3,600 lbs.

Not bad.....

Slip the clutch a little and you will 60' a lot better.

Besides that and taking a bite of fries in between 1/2 that was pretty good!

2-3 was worse. more like a big mac...

On my second run it woudnt go into 2nd the first two times I tried. I also had issues with it on the drive home so I hope its not the synchros.

First track day with any new combo is always exciting and disappointing. You got some good data and now can improve. A dedicated 15" wheel and slick will give you more sidewall and will be a bit more forgiving on a stick car. Talk to 87ta about how to make a single disc clutch work better.

Thats another thing, my tach seems accurate at idle and.under normal driving but it doesnt seem accurate to me when Im driving the poo out of it. I need to get a cheap shift light and set it for 6,800. the rev limiter is at 7,200.

is this not still a single disc clutch? i'm more or less talking about a "street type" clutch and not an expensive slipper clutch. the clutch is NOT going to slip, so you need the tires to spin some. if the clutch doesn't slip, and the tires dead hook, you will break parts. i don't care how beefy they are, lol! the rate of change of speed is just too high.

Oh, yea its a single disc but it has six pucks of contact material instead of a solid disc.

Some bias ply tires would be cool for a smaller wheel but I need other stuff too.

i'll be honest man, you say it's a "pig" at 3600, but i'm surprised it's not heavier with all the stuff you got in it. was that with or without you in the car (weight without you doesn't really do much for calcs since it can't drive down the track on it's own, lol)

Thats without me. I am 215. I never weighed it stock to see how much I changed it by upgrading everything.

I was wondering this too...3800lbs sounds more like it for a vert. If you dont make the tire or clutch spin...leave much softer or itll tear stuff up. Id leave more like 3000 and see what happens. A nose heavy car with a stick will NOT want to plant those rear tires.

The only stock part on my suspension and drivetrain is the steel driveshaft. Everything else has been upgraded.
