Post pics of your fuel cell
I want to add a fuel cell to my 84 coupe to try and correct a fuel starvation issue. Its a full time drag car but its not a chassis car. Also any suggestions or pictures of how you ran your fuel line to the front would be great. I want to use -8 braided line and would like to see how others have done it. I seem to live in the land of mustangs and just can't seem to find another 3rd gen to go to for answers Thanks in advance

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
What are you using to try to push enough fuel through a -8 from the back to the front under acceleration?

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
I am still running mechanical pump. Engine builder said it should be sufficient but just isn't working out. Thought I would add cell and larger line. Holley blue pump would be next upgrade. Sorry I don't remember the name and number of the mech pump but I used this same model on round track modified for years with no promblems.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
I have a 4 gallon vertical cell mounted in the trunk next to my 16v battery..it comes with straps just bolt it right in. Im gonna say no point in doing it without the electric pump. You need to push the fuel from the back to the front when racing..but thats me.

I was hoping to avoid the electric pump but it seems to be inevitable. how did you run your line to the front? Thanks.

I ran it along my sfc and up under the fenderwell cover to frame and out the battery box area. Trust me...its just time to go electric.

sumped factory tank, rear mounted areomotive tsunami, -8 feed to regulator, -6 return, run inside the passenger side frame rail. clean, simple, and has capacity enough to take a road trip

86iroc2try and mw66nova thanks for the advice. I guess tomorrow I will go out and start making a parts list and trying to work things out. I fuel supply does not fix it, I need to buy a better set of heads. It have been much easier had I hit the lottery last night. damn.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
I moved my fuel cell up front when I switched to alcohol. Its an RCI 4 gallon cell. Capped off the original sumps and drilled one in the back side because of the way I had to turn it.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
For a drag only car, you don't need a big fuel cell and it shouldn't be at the back. Mine is a 4 gallon mounted under the hood. I refill it after every run. Running alcohol, I could make two 1/4 mile passes before refilling but I want the same weight on every pass.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
we've run low 10s on a mechanical edelbrock pump through a 1/2" line. When during the pass does your fuel pressure drop? Are you running the tank low? An easy solution is to just sump your stock tank and run lines off that.
I'm running a sumped tank with -10 to a large magnafuel pump to -10 up front to a fuel log with a 2 port magnafuel regulator and a holley regulator as well. Way overkill for what you're trying to do.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
I have a sumped stock tank but have been considering a cell. Im really torn on where I want it to be though as dont these things start getting front heavy with a fuel cell big pump etc up front? I know on the street I can tell when I have a full tank! it tries to hook but without it just a spin fest. Hoping to see the track far more this year. At this point I believe its gonna be a track only car.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
they make a bolt in aftermarket fuel cell. $3000+. we picked one up and todate have made 2 copys. im having mine made from billt alum sheet. parts for the copy tanks are less then $400. im having mine made, with a few more updates. larger sump.bigger drain. and pollished finnish when done.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
Car is nosing over at approx. 6800 rpms. It a solid lifter motor and should go a lot higher.
my friends all have big block cars and swear it needs an electric pump. Went by th3e local speed shop yesterday and they have a nice aluminum 5 gal tank that will fit in trunk well. was planning -8 line with a holley blue pump, will do away with mechanical pump. I just don't know what else to do, my builder has his stuff together and has been doing sbc since the begining of time. we also discussed maybe my heads are restricting the motor to the point that it won't turn up. I just don't want to spend all my money on Aluminum heads and it still needs more fuel. Tring to get the most bang for my buck.
PS. Thanks to everyone that has reponded

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
might be cam, intake, heads etc. If you duct taped a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield and made a pull you'd know if it was fuel pressure or not. Otherwise you haven't checked the easiest part of this issue.....

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
^^^ this. You don't know if your running out of fuel or not until you can watch your fuel pressure down track. I made a flat mount and pod, silicone'd it to the windsheild under the cowl. I run a mechanical pump by the way. it will flow 9psi WOT down track.
Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
if the fuel pump/delivery isnt the problem....
what heads are on it? if they are stock or anywhere near stock it probably will never make it to 6800 regardless of what cam is in there. heads are the most important part of the engine.
if its a properly sized set of heads, i would say it could be floating the valves. might need a heftier spring or possibly just shim the ones you already have.

Re: Post pics of your fuel cell
As noted, rig up some sort of temporary fuel pressure gauge taped/zip-tied to the cowl/wipers and check what it's doing. - I did that back in the day with an Edelprock Performer street mechanical and found I was dropping to 0-1psi by the top of 3rd on my old 355. Went to the Victor series pump and was solid 8psi all the way through.
No point in spending money on anything yet if you don't know that it's needed.
As for the topic - front mount cell & Enderele pump for me; have also run a Holley blue when it was carb'd.
Carb set-up with 4 gallon poly cell -

Only shot I seem to have of the 6 gallon cell with the blown combo -
