BAIT THREAD for Car of The Month -- Pro Touring

Please show us your Pro Touring Camaro or Firebird. These are cars equally comfortable on the street, road course, and drag strip. If we can find enough fine examples then I will reserve a Car of The Month contest just for this category. The winner will be displayed on the front page of Thirdgen.org website. Let's show people what we can do with our 3rd gens!

The usual COTM guidelines are in effect. All cars must be of exceptional fit and finish inside and out. No partially completed project cars.

I think this is a great idea! Thanks for thinking of us on this side of the fence that like to race our cars! Mine is still a work in progress but I will certainly submit some pictures and info for it to be considered for car of the month once it's done.

Here are a handful of pictures from this last year. Just realized I never uploaded any of them to my build thread.

Dang, that car is hot, redmaroz. I remember your build thread in the LSx swap section.

Yep, I want to highlight what people do with these cars. The Pro-Touring category will probably run for June (which is actually voting in May). If we don't get enough Pro-Touring cars then I'll just make it something like "Built not Bought" and that will easily fill up with cool cars.

Did you see this month's subject? "Cars SAVED from the GRAVE." Those guys got some skills to reclaim those cars! Voting will begin in about another week.

18x11 front and rear. And yes DSE suspension all around, front sway bar, wonder bar, a arms, weight jacks, caster camber plates, and strut tower brace. Their sfc, the quadralink/jri coilovers in the rear along with their rear sway bar. Its a great set up.

Redmaroz, your car is very well done. Looks sharp and they sure are fun when you can push them hard.

My 89 iroc, 383 making ~550hp, t56 magnum, fabricated 9" rear, wilwood brakes and a treatment of spohn and detroit speed suspension parts.

Re: BAIT THREAD for Car of The Month -- Pro Touring

I have been holding off on posting mine, since I am in the middle of a major major upgrade to it. I could post the previous setup of when it ran the Optima Batteries Ultimate Streetcar event(s) and the UMI AutoX event.. but I might want to wait until the new engine is up and running and this car is actually back out doing pro-touring driving.

Yeah, the car has to be represented as-is when May rolls around. No worries though, we'll be doing it again some time and you'll get another chance.

18X10, square. Don’t positively remember backspacing specs from memory, but IIRC, 6”BS on the rear, and 5.75” BS up front. Would have to find my wheel order to verify. Have had 275- rivals, 285 RE-71s, and soon to try a 295 Advan.

gotcha, makes sense to me!

the car will be up and running in probably two weeks, but I doubt I will get it out to any actual track days prior to may. but it will be ready. dropped in the engine 2 days ago, just a few more days of plumbing, wiring, components, etc etc

I really like how each of you have a picture on the track. No posers here.

Re: BAIT THREAD for Car of The Month -- Pro Touring

awesome. My car is rip-roaring and ready to race, but here in the entire northeast, ALL autocross, road course, drag race, and plain old racing events are suspended. I was hoping to get this car out to an event in April to hammer down on the new 406 engine. I have put about 400 street miles on it so far and one test and tune day at the track.. but sadly, I don't think any on-track action will happen in the next few weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyways, the car is rockin' and I am enjoying the hell out of it.

I'll ask here, so as not to muddle up the COTM thread.... today, may 3rd, my car is fully functional, 100% complete, as pictured, I probably put over 1000 miles on it in april. I'm even driving it to work tomorrow to evacuate the refrigerant from the ac system... However, tomorrow night when I get home, I'm blowing it all apart. Its getting twin turbos, all new accessory drive, all new steering parts, weight jacking springs and 18x11 wheels. I'm gunning for a 2-3 week turnaround time, but essentially at the time of voting, the car will not be as represented. Now, it'll be pretty sweet by the end of the month, but I'll probably sit this one out as it is essentially a project for the time being.

Looks like you made it to May. LOL! Go for it.
It's normal for racers to have spots of down time for projects. That's what you do with your cars.
