It's possible there are other privately owned tracks that are not sanctioned by NHRA or IHRA. Tried the yellow pages?

One of the ones I go to is Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA which is below Macon. Probably a hundred miles from you. This is also where the GA F Body Association holds their shootouts for our cars. Those gatherings are really fun. It is a nice track and you will pretty much always get as many runs as you want...The test and tune is opening Jan. 26 and will be almost every Saturday morning until it gets a little warmer and then it will be on Friday nights.
Email me if you have any other questions.

Hey, have I got good news for you !! That's my neck of the woods, I live in North Augusta, SC (across the river). There is a great dragstip (IHRA track, 1/4 mile) about 25 minutes away from you in Jacskon, SC. They just repaved the track last week, and will be re-opening this Thursday night. I'm planning on being there. I'll be in a turquoise metallic '91 ZR-1 Corvette, or a red "stock looking" '89 IROC. It costs $12 to get in and race, $8 to get in and watch. They run every Thursday night from 7 - 10:30, and every Saturady night from 6 - 10. Thursdays are the most crowded (lots of street cars). Saturdays are not as crowded, and there are usually more "real race cars" there. You should check it out. If you like, you can e-mail me direct if you have any more questions about Jackson (smcrewszr1@aol.com).
See Ya,....Mike.

Sorry 350 TPI:
I thought you meant Augusta, GA. Who would have thought there were more than one Augusta's in the world...I'm retarded.

Hey 3504mula,
Don't be so quick to "dis" yourself - you were right (and gave good advice, as Silver Dollar is a nice track). We ARE talking about Augusta, Georgia. Carolina Dragway in Jackson, SC is just right across the Sav. River from Augusta (the river is the GA/SC border). The Jackson strip is only about 25 or 30 mins. away from Augusta, GA (a little closer than Reynolds).
By the way, do you know when the next F-Body shootout is?
Later, Mike........

Yeah I was wondering why the title of the post was Augusta, GA...
Is there not a closer track to Mississippi???
I heard about Carolina Dragway a few weeks ago. Is it nice? I wouldn't mind taking a trip there this season.
Last year the GAFBA Spring Fling was March 11, so I guess it will be somewhere around that time. I would definitely like to see more thirdgens there. I was pretty much the slowest one there...
There was some talk about moving the shootouts to Steele, AL but no word on whether or not that was true. I heard Steele was a "rough" track, so I hope it doesn't change.

I think Carolina Dragway is a pretty good track. I haven't been to tons of track, but I've been to a few. Carolina focuses pretty much on the track and related items, not the "amenites" (like the bathrooms, food, etc.) However, it is kind of a small track as far as tracks go. It doesn't have much coastdown area if you're planning on running 175 mph in the quarter (so far, that hasn't been a issue for me, if you know what I mean). When the pro-mods come, they only run 1/8 mile because of the limited coasdown area. The track used to have a few bumps in it, but like I mentioned earlier, they just totally repaved the first 1/8 mile (all concrete). I'm going tomorrow night to check it out, it's the first night open after the repave. I'll let you know how it goes.
Later,..Mike.
