Fuel tank sump and muffler question

So, I've been running my 89 Formula in Champcar and Luckydog Endurance series. Just wondering if anyone has done a sump on their fuel tank... I'm losing fuel pressure with the stock pickup/sender/hotlined stock pump at about 11.5 to 12 gallons . I have a second tank with a sump added, I'm just wondering how to deal with the muffler. Most of our races require a DB limit, Laguna Seca being the most fun and most restrictive, so I'm not straight piping or anything of that sort. Right now I'm running a Magnaflow and I like where my sound is at with that.
I'm considering just re-clocking the muffler and wrapping it in tons of header wrap

Re: Fuel tank sump and muffler question

I put a sump on mine, and still ran the single 4" Flowmaster 40 muffler, with the tin muffler shield

It's tight, but it fit.
I routed the hose slightly on the incline with 90 degree fitting

Re: Fuel tank sump and muffler question

Hi just found this thread and hoping you guys still check post here. I have a 1990 IROC with a fuel tank sump installed. I am running dual exhaust with turn downs at the axel, and the fuel tank heat shields are removed. I want to install a Muffelx 4" single exhaust that will place the muffler back in the stock location. Did you guys put your heat shields back on or how are you managing the heat from the muffler against the tank? I am thinking to cut a hole in the shield for the sump to fit through and bolting the stock shield back into place.

Yes I put the heat shields back in. Just bent them to contour around the fittings out of the sump.

I also have 4" over the axle with a single 4" exit

Previous to this muffler, I had a Flowmaster 4" on, and it still fit.
I bent the tin shield around to fit the muffler and the fittings that come out of the sumped tank.
