What Jon said. Although in Mt. Vernon (~1hour north of Seattle) ice/snow is rare.

Your supposed to have the plate, but alot of people get away with not having it.

even if we do get snow, the roads don't get salted and the ocean doesn't play much of any part on effecting peoples cars...

the snow we do get though usually ranges from mid december to early january and thats about it...

if you live in side King county (the Greater seattle area) emissions testing is required same with Snohmash (spelling???) & Pierice counties.

license plate Ya can get away with it most ppl I know have it in the front windsheild that way if they get stoped they have it in view.

Snow lol Not much
Demon dont forget we do sometimes get snow in the Feb & Mid March Or did you forget this last St Patties day??

I'd hate to have to put a plate on the front of my car, just looks bad IMO, and there is no way I will ever pass emmisions, thats one of the 2 things I like about michigan. I have to store my car from late Nov- late march. We get a good amount of snow and they usse salt to melt the ice, since detroit is o top of one of the worlds largest salt deposits

Just move to Monroe, its in Snohomish County but you won't have to pass emissions (I don't have to pass, Monroe is basically the only town where you don't have to pass in Snohomish county )

You can get away with no plate if you keep it visible in the window or say you lost the bracket... if theres no visible way to mount it, then you can get away with it easilly

I didn't pay much attention to feb or march... I didn't get snow up here

Places out here can be pretty lax with emissions however, and you'd never have to worry about salt out here unless you go driving straight into the puget sound or something

A friend of mine named Gene Miller lives across the valley but still in Monroe and I recall him having to take his rig thru emissions and he was worried they would give him hell about his exhaust. They test the seal of your gas cap now, too and they tested the even years this year but if you move into the area from out of state, you have to test regardless. I can post the limits for Snohomish County if that would help you prepare for the move, 92RS shearn. The biggest necessity is a catalytic converter. I just went thru the hell they call emissions. Maybe Aaron lives in a "special" neighborhood or something.

Actually, Washington State uses a mixture of salt and sand. The salt helps to melt the ice and snow while the sand helps with traction. The salt is actually a combo with a silica type product. My father in law and grandfather run the feed mill in Oregon where they produce this product for Washington State. They just started producing the first order a few weeks ago and will continue thru January for this season. Snohomish County is really good about getting the main thoroughfares sanded pretty quick and they are good with follow up, too. Some areas get more snow than others depending on elevation, how close to the ocean you are, etc.

Well I don't have a cat. conv. I have removed my AIR system and my EGR is no longer functional. I have aftermarket headers and was about to swap to a carbed 350 or 400, thats why I asked about emmisions, here in Mich I don't need them.

Though one big question I shopuld ask is how is the market the for Mechanical Engineers?

I live in unincorporated snohomish county, not really monroe not really sultan, so that might be why i don't have to pass...

I'vee been pulled over 3 times in the past year for no front plate so I finally put mine back on!

We have emissions tests, but only the sniffer, no visual inspection. My '85 Z28 had none of its emissions equipment and passed the test easily. Lets cross our fingers for the RS...

I would think mechanical engineers in a manufacturing environment would continue to be in high demand since the market is more competitive, they need mech. eng to help them keep in the lead on products. FMC has a local manufacturer in Redmond called DSI/Stein and they used to regularly employ new mech. eng. for their machinery. If interested, speak with a guy named Andy Rudy. He's the main mech. eng. dude.

Flow International continues to grow and they are in a highly profitable market that isn't soo swayed by the current market. They are in Kent. Mention the name Tom Weiman. That might help.

BF Goodrich in Everett does all of their hiring thru an agency and I highly doubt getting in there would be an option as they are prolly inundated with the people laid off from Boeing.

Good luck.
