Sucks. Anyone lost at any time is bad. It's even worse on a holiday long weekend.

Not to be morbid, but out of curiosity..... The story says 1986 Trans Am, but with those gold rims and the back wing - the car looks like a 1988 GTA Notchback.

That really sucks. I wonder what the deal was, no brakes? But the car looks to be a 86 T/A just with gold crosslaces. You can see the frame that was on the glass of the rear hatch, is still there the hatch just shattered. The door panels look to be 86s too.

Wow.. For a city street, speeding was an understatement. They had to be going nearly or over 50 MPH to cause that kind of damage. R.I.P.

Anybody have any idea on the girl's recovery?
For the guys, RIP, but I've always said, if you want to push the envelope, don't have passengers. Damn X-Y chromosomes anyway.

If you'll look at the last pic you can see a window crank in the door panel. Did the Trans Am ever come with manual windows? I am pretty sure the GTA didn't which also rules out the car being a GTA. Actually from the additional images in some other links for this story I can see that the car in question was most likely a Trans Am. Though I didn't know they ever came with manual windows.

Seattle Times is reporting that the driver, Turner, was already awaiting a court date for felony hit and run on 3/6/10, including driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (0.14 percent, well over the legal limit of 0.02 percent for drivers under the age of 21) and that his license was suspended. Police have updated their earlier report. They now say the car involved was a 1986 Pontiac Firebird. Cops on the scene were saying that no one was wearing seat belts.
The girl was an exchange student from Korea. She suffered severe injuries in the crash and was originally hospitalized in critical condition at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center. Her condition was upgraded Wednesday (4/7/10) to serious, though she remains in the intensive-care unit, said hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson.

Re: was he a member here?
I can't see any pieces of a notch back, or the telltale back seats with head rests that went with them. If the report is accurate then the car couldn't be a GTA and therefore couldn't have been a notchback. I'd bet from the photos that the rear hatch glass shattered on impact and that's why you don't see it. I can see what looks like the glass "frame" resting on the passenger rear quarter.

I believe that in '87, GTAs could have manual windows and that formed part of my original query.
Thanks.
