Thanks Joe but I have to confess that this is from my new friend Eddie Barra's TA

Gotcha !

Here is the car of the real owner of this interior:

Scroll to the middle of the page, Eddie has just added a few more trophies to his collection

He has an 86 T/A with Recaros, so we got along right off the bat

Well Joe now I have your attention, I have to ask you about removing the TPI... There is a good chance my EGR is hosed, How hard is it to remove the plenum ? My car has sat for the last 2 weeks It runs like crap but there are no error codes ! I found a bunch of hood insulation on my intake manifold (under the plenum) so maybe my EGR valve choked on it. If I do take them off I might as well polish them:

Any help is appreciated

Don

Don,

taking off the intake is not too hard. Are you sure it is the egr? Its been a long time since i have dealt with egr problems but if i rember right, there is a way you can test the egr via a vacume line. I think you put a vacume load via a tester on to the egr...can't rember the rest...anyone help me out? What is the car doing exactly?

Hi crusader ! I will ask Eddie, I think your right about the mats.

Hellooooo craiger ! I have had my engine light come on in the past, at SIR Jesse told me it was an egr problem. I have the factory repair manual and a Haynes as backup. 1st we will test the EGR solenoid for power along with the vacuum. Last but least the valve will be tested...

Last week I put in some "off road only" octane boost and topped off my tank with super. It started running like crap after, by coincidence I'm not sure. There are no codes stored in the ECU

It idles bad and runs like its missing a plug. This motor has low miles so I'm baffled but will continue the step by step troubleshooting outlined in my books.

I asked about TPI removal because I'm looking ahead, I think that's where I will be soon

Removing the Plenum and TB is the easiest part. Make sure you get the little insets for the star clean, because you dont want to round them out. Basically, just take your time, and youll be golden. In order to remove the runners, I had to pull my valve covers to get to the very bottom bolts. But, while you got the plenum and runners off, why not do a little porting in there? There are tons of "How To's" around, and it is almost like a free mod. Ive noticed quite a difference in porting the plenum, and doing the Simease job on the intake, it pulls ALOT harder in the upper RPM range now.

And, a Tip for polishing the runners and plenum. Go and get just about every grit of sand paper from 40-1500. Start with the 40, move up, and youll probably have to backtrack as the pits show up. Kinda a long job, and be prepared for hand cramps! Also, since there is the Plenum, and 2 runners.. you got 2 kids right? The Runners are cake compared to the plenum. Well, hope that helps some, if you have anymore questions, dont hesistate to ask.
