Doug, let's talk 4th gen consoles for a moment
Did you ever get your 4th gen console to fit? That would be a big negative from me. The only way you could say it fit is that it did fit between the seats.... that's about it! Plus there's no way at all that's it's ever going to clear my Tremec TKO shifter.
And not only that but do you think it's the cheapest, flimsiest, piece 'o junk you've ever had??? You have to handle the thing with kid gloves. I broke off the two front clips holding the shifter boot to the top cover simply by putting my tranny in to 3rd gear! IT WASN'T EVEN THAT FAR!!!! It tugged a bit on the boot and *snap* *snap* *tinkle*. Both clips broken off. There's no way I can put the tranny in 5th or reverse.

Well, making this post got me irritated and I went out and worked with it again. After hacking, cutting, bending, and nearly snapping some pieces in two I finally got it to sit in place with the rear bolts in the original mounting holes. I altered the mounting of the shift stick and that allowed it to clear the edges of the shift hole. However, I am going to have to sew up a new shift boot so it has enough reach for the movement of my shifter. Frankly, it doesn't look that great for the trouble it's causing. But it's different and I've got a cup holder.

Yes, they are totally flimsy and I found nothing near worth the trouble. I did break my shifter boot, too, and about everything else... I never got the holes to line up, either.
Personally for cup holders I am getting the 90-92 door cup holders (already have one!)
Glad to hear you got it in, though

Driving a stick shift with a paper glass between your legs isn't that much fun.
So, I like my cup holder!
Doug, I'm glad to hear you had the same problems.... er.... let me rephrase that.... I'm glad I wasn't the only one having those problems. hehe. You have an automatic, don't you? I've heard that makes it even harder because you have to move the mount location over 2-inches towards the driver.
Basically, what I did to make it fit is remove the entire U-shaped mount from the far front of the console. You have to cut and grind it flush with the console. Then I shoved it in place really hard and kept bumping the edges out so it would collapse further down the carpet. When it's about to snap in 15 different locations you'll notice that the rear mounting holes inside the rear compartment line up with your floor pan mounts. Then you put BOTH screws in place and pray it doesn't break when you let go with your hand. After that you play with your shifter for a bit and wish you had a boot that fit.

I am glad to hear you kinda got it to fit. I gave up on mine after having it in, but looking like crap and never fitting right w/ the shifter boot cover. Finally I got sick of it and stuck my stock one back in and haven't even considering giving the 4th gen console another shot...

Well, if it's just the boot then it's an easy fix. Just use a thread cutter and disassemble the old one. Use it as a pattern and cut out new pieces that are longer to provide your more reach. Just use some black vinyl. It's the same thing as the original. Then sew them all together with a sewing machine. I did the same thing for my 3rd gen console because the original boot sagged so bad into the shifter hole. I made it a lot bigger so it would fold over and stay on top of the hole. Looks real plush.
