ok heres the deal...i picked up a brand new rebuilt 350..bone stock rebuild..stock bore..new pistons..new crank..shot peend rods..new bone stock cam and lifters..and i also picked up a world class t-5 tranny from a 90s tpi camaro. heres my question..should i either..leave it bone stock..and throw em both in my 82 transam..or..change the cam..put really good heads on it..and go for some HORSEPOWER!? or put a mild cam in it..and just make it a daily driveable..engine with decent horsepower?
Well, Id say, put the 350 in as it is, save up for a complete 355 setup, I.E. new cam, pistons, yadda, yadda, and then when you blow it (
) youll be all ready to tear it out and everything, but for now Id just enjoy it as it is, and come on down here when you get it done

i say you sell the dorky t-5, put the 350 as is, in front of the slush box you have. wait for it to blow up, build the he|| out of it, and buy a good tranny.

Car: for now i have a 79 firebird that had a toasted 301 (imagine that!)
Engine: well i *had* a 301, but there is a pontiac 350 on the stand to get me on the road again and a 428 after that :D
Transmission: th350
that 5 speed wont last long...
for that trans your limited to about 200-250 hp. you puy any kind of power through it and you'll be picking up in peices. a good built 700r4 may work pretty well behind this engine

well ive heard that a world class can handle somewhere around 350 horse..and 350 tq..as long as you dont beat the crap out of it everyday i.e...5k rpm clutch dumps lol

Posi or no Posi? It is absolutely no problem to run a stock 350 with a T-5. I did it for years. Maybe I saved the trans by not having posi though. You can't really hurt it if you can't get traction (other than missing shifts/being stupid). Oh, mine wasn't even a WC T-5 either. Whether you mod the 350 and have to hope the trans can last, or keep it stock and know it will, you'll have lots of fun with it. So, I guess I haven't actually voted, but threw in some comments anyways...
ahhh, who cares
Hey either way man enjoy it, I'm jelouse
man if it were me go moderate, don't go overboard, it would be a blast to have it all, but look at it this way there still is some stupid ***** that has dumped three times as much money that will beat it, the more money the faster it'll go, who cares, get it to where it is fun and enjoy the heck out of it, try not to do to many of those burnouts, as fun as they are
but I have a v-6, I would like more power myself, but you'lle never get enough settle for moderate and drive it, but then again thats me maybe not you, hey thought I'de atleast voice

I voted for "going for max hp". But I would also vote for the option of putting in a "milder" cam and having a good street motor behind the T5.
I have a WC T5 behind my 350, and I (as well as Karl Hunter)personally knows someone who has a WC T5 behind a very nicely built 350 that is one hell of a driver when he races.
I don't consider my 350 to be a killer street machine blows the doors off vipers, corvettes, porsches, etc... but let's say that I'm confident enough that with a bit more suspension work, and driving technique, I could easily run head to head with a Z06.
I say, build the engine well. I mean, if you're gonna put a cam in there, A LOT is gonna come off the top of the motor.. I'm not saying that you should go out there and grab the biggest cam available. But if you're gonna swap the cam, go for the best one. I don't know if you're gonna do much to the heads/intake..
I wouldn't worry too much about the WC T5 blowing up... ANYTHING will break with ABUSE. GO for it, and when/if the T5 blows, then save up for a rebuild kit, or get a T56

Mark try this site
This is my site and it has some engine dynos on it, they may help ya decide what will be best. www.fbodypage.freeservers.com
Just put the cam you want in and be nice to the T-5 understanding if you abuse it you will lose it.
Worst case you blow the T-5 and have to get a T-56, I can think of worse excuses to get a 6 speed.
