thoughts on bettering air intake
Hey all,
I was sitting at a light feeling horrible from working an hour and a half over, when a Honda Del sol pulls up next to me, his lane ended, and I knew he was going to try and race past me, well by now I was getting fired up, and wondering what he thought I had under the hood, I'm pretty sure in the ricers mentality he thought I had a v-8, they tend to over exagerate what they don't understand, but okay the light goes green, and I here my six pistons working and screeming, and I watch him pull ahead
he went around me
well after a crummy night at work and then losing I was thinking, "man I would sure like to prove these ricers wrong" but then again I only have a v-6 3.1, and he was much lighter as he is mostly plastic aside from maybe that huge fart can muffler he had, well, there are a few options, but before you dig out the tech section on the dual snorkels, those were fitted with the camaros with the slits for vents in the bumber cover, I am thinking I would like to get a cold air filter and fit it on the end of my stock duct work and get rid of my crappy air box, I have already put a Tornado Air in the duct to speed up the air, which despite popular belief actually helped my economy and also gave it a little more kick and lengtier shift points
but I want to get better performance yet, any advice, should I try and fit that cold air to my duct, or make my own cold air system, as I know for a fact k and n started making cold air for camaro v-6's starting in 93 not 92.....
so not sure as to my options on air intake and was wondering if you guys had any advice, oh and spare the v-8 jokes, I could live without them please, I am simply trying to get a v-6 to do better untill I can droip my choice of engines, I'm thinking LS1, but not going there yet as I am only a poor college student
thanks guys and long live the f-body even if it is stopped for good.

I'm sorry jer but I kinda have to agree with them on this
maybe on a carb system there might be some improvment but on a FI system the swirl it would cause would be gone by the time it even hits the runners so it is not going to help atomize the fuel any and instead just put something in the way of the air and make the motor work harder to pull the air in
I would say take a G-tech to it though I know you dont have one (I might be able to borrow one from the rx-7 club to dyno my mav for kicks though
), or take a stop watch to it with and w/o the intake thing
as for a better intake you can make a custom one out of PVC and work it around near the front bumper, and get a cheap cone filter to put on the end of it.
also you can port out your intake manifold, though I know you dont want to have the car down that long, so try to find a spare off of www.thepartstrader.com or www.ebaymotors.com
that little plastic thing with ribs one the end of the TB you want to at least replace that with some PVC piping if you can.
and if you know somebody who can do some work on your exhaust, what you can do is have them cut the cat out for you then put some flanges on the exhaust pipe and on your car. then have them put a straight pipe in there with flanges on that also
this way when emissions time comes around that once a year you can just unbolt the straight pipe bolt up the cat go test then swap it all around again.
dont know if you can do it on these cars or not but also by advancing the timing a bit you might be able to pick up a few extra hp, though again not sure if it will mess with the computer or not.

well I appreciate your input
thanks, I'm not joking on the tornado
I have noticed a slight improvement, and I wouldn't say that unless I had really purchased it, besides I got a significant discount from work, hey rexer, we need to stop by Homey D to go make a cold air set-up, I'm sick and tired of not having some mods I can list, I'm thinking once my dad gets payed off thanks to my car, I'm going to also put some good exaust on it, anyways thanks again and the laughing at me is excused, I'm simply liking the fact I'm saving on fuel more then most would think
