Really nice GTA, looks like a keeper to me! I"ll bet my buddy George in Kingman, AZ would love to have it. What's the car's history?

Re: 1989 GTA convertible for sale

I know it was originally from california, and has been on the island for the past 10 years. Has about 130k miles but only shows 78k the odometer went out and I replaced it. It was repainted once as well maybe 7 or 8 years ago I will have to look at the receipts. But it sure is fun driving around the island with the top down.

Being a GTA in that condition I would give you $5000.00 for it no problem.

Take a vacation to Hawaii and check it out on your spare time. Shipping to the main land is $1075 with Matson. Then road trip back home. That would be fun.

That's not a bad freight bill. Not much more than shipping from coast to coast by truck.

Funny you should mention vacationing in Hawaii, since I might be going back in a couple of months to settle my divorce in court. I spent more than 30 years living in Oahu and working for DoD, I lived right across from Pearl Harbor. When I retired and moved to Kingman, AZ I saw a real nice 91 Camaro ragtop back on Oahu so I came out of retirement and took a job on Oahu for a year, bought the 91, took it with me to CA, then AZ, then back to Long Beach, CA. So I kinda been around the block a few times, so to speak. Does the Navy still offer "space available" shipping on its west coast transportation vessels for military members? If so, that cuts the cost of transportation about 90%.

That is something that I would really like to know. I have heard about It but never got an answer or even where to start asking questions. Don't know if they still do that or not.

I'm a few years away from retirement, but my personality is similar to Duck's.

I could easily see myself coming out of retirement for a year after seeing a nice ragtop for sale.

I did some research before running out of time to leave Oahu. The OPLIFT program might have someone waiting months before an opening occurs.

Here's the HI and CA contact info, not sure if they're still current. I know a guy in AZ who'd really like your GTA, so let me know what you find out.

Opportune Lift (OpLift). This is a Navy program similar to the Space Available (Space A) passenger flight program in which a personal property, like a car, may be shipped on a Navy vessel traveling to Hawaii from ConUS for a small fee or no cost. The program is only for active duty service members on PCS orders to Hawaii or retiree's with a retiree ID card. The program only ships from San Diego to Hawaii.

I'm glad you got close to your asking price. It's apparent the values of convertibles are rising and the interest in them is too, as shown by a film company which used my 91 convertible for a commercial recently. IMO you should have kept the ragtop, but I guess it wasn't a good fit for your needs right now. Hard tops have much more creature comfort, good luck with your next one!
