Yeah, freight is a problem for us in Hawaii also. Some places won't ship to Alaska and Hawaii they forget we're part of the United States. The only way to get reasonable shipping is to use USPS parcel post, but some places only ship UPS or FEDEX.

Re: Freight
99.995% of the time overseas shipping costs are quoted by air. If you're not in a hurry you can try asking suppliers if they can arrange surface shipping, or you can use a freight-forwarder.

Re: Freight
Find a company who brings over cars and ask them to bring your items over for a fee. They are usually happy to get a few extra bucks.

Re: Freight
I found that with some sites if you order an item that has free shipping (to the continental 48 states) shipping to AK, HI, & PR is usually not very much, like $10 or so, as long as it's not a large, or heavy item they tend to ship it USPS, UPS, or FEDEX ground. I've even seen freight items at a reduced freight cost, but it will still empty your pockets. Just have to shop around for the best item price & shipping cost.
