RHD TA wiper problem

Hi all,

Only my second post, more of a lurker.

I'm in Australia hence posting here! Purchased an '84 TA project a while back, and it's getting close to being on the road, so close I took it in for a pre roadworthy inspection.

Prior to my purchasing the car it had been converted to right hand drive, however the wind shield wipers are still in the LHD configuration, this is a problem for the powers that be with them indicating there is not enough "sweep" on the new drivers side of the car.

Having just spent $10k on body and paint I'm not to keen to have someone start hacking away at the firewall to remedy the issue. I have been doing some research online and about the only thing I could find that might be useful is a single blade conversion, but as to where I might buy one of these kits I have no idea.

Short version:

Any ideas on how I can increase the sweep of the wind shield wipers to provide more coverage to the right hand side of the windscreen?

Thanks.

John.

Re: RHD TA wiper problem

Thats the main problem with most rhd firebird's in aus, they all still have lhd wipers.
However most are registered with it (been overlooked) as it seems your caught up in the ruling.

I looked briefly at it and even mucked around with some other parts, but with the extremely limited room there wasn't much you could fit.

I'd imagine you'd have to look at maybe european cars for single wiper conversions, or see who the aftermarket suppliers are of the euro cars as a few of them have single wipers.

The easy solution, at least in Vic, is go for "club" registration which has an easier rwc

Here I think cars need to be 20 years old for classic club rego.

Re: RHD TA wiper problem

I was doing some car stuff paperwork filing and was reading my engineer conversion and modifications done (QLD ). Mine are still original sweep however to meet the required design rule the wipers were extended by 30mm (via longer wiper blade) and this met the design modification for 97when it was converted.

Club rego in Australia is 25 years if you are a club member. If not, 30 years.
