You're a poor bastard here... and that is not meant as an insult.

Since those rims are what KITT from Knight Rider had on the conversion community is after them like the devil is after a pure soul.

Watch out for them on ebay (use either "knight rider" as a search term or turbo cast rims)... you'll find quite a few sets but expect prices in the 1000$ range.

Well I settled for 14" rims... right now I find the prices of those things ridiculous.

cam91rs1: Yes, there are two different versions... the ones you probably have are called turbo finned rims and do not take the hubcaps. At least with the conversion community they are worth nothing.

BlackGold82T/A: Your best bet are junk yards or people who have either no idea that there are people paying insane prices or people who hate those people paying insane prices .

The trick is how to find them.... and THAT I cannot help you with. You'll have to check out about every junk yard there is...

I am not sure on this, but do you want the type of wheel that was used for the hub caps, or without the hubcaps. I have a set of the "Turbo" rim that has just fins are are not for use with the Hubcaps, although I think you could modify them to work with hub caps.

THey are from an 83 Trans Am, and are in good condition, not perfect, but I think they could be cleaned up to be show worthy

John

Sorry to make you download, for the life of me I do not know why I cannot post a pic, only a linnk to it.

For reals LG4,the rims they used in the K/R show were 14s?

Yep, 14s are dirt cheap compared to 15s. If you don't mind the 1 inch difference go for 14 inch rims. And stay clear of turbo FINNED rims. Turbo CAST are what you are looking for.

Enlighten me, I honestly have no idea. Would you call mine "turbo Finned" or "Turbo Cast" My wheels are definately cast, and Finned. What is the difference?

Sorry had trouble downloading that file.... Had to rename it...

They are Turbo Finned. Compare them to the picture in the first post. The difference lies in the indents in the fins which are there to hold the "Bowling Ball" hubcaps. You CAN mount the hubcaps on finned rims too... just doesn't look the same and takes some work to accomplish.

Is your question fully answered?

I was just at the bank and I saw a base firebird with those wheels, without the hubcaps. I watched him leave, but I did not ask him for the wheels off his car...

"Excuse me sir, but would you be interested in selling your wheels to me?"

Knight Rider sucks!!! I wish nothing but the worst for whoever sells those 15" rims and caps for a dime over $200 for the whole set to anybody. Thats all they are worth. Knight Rider and all its "geek" followers is the only reason for those prices.

I guess it would depend on your definitiion of "restore" to some a restoration would be to put the EXACT equipment on the car when it was produced. To others, upgrading, or changing things as they would have been on that year car and model would not be a bad thing. For example, Because that car did not come with A/C, it would not be a bad thing to put AC on it, and still make it all correct.
