cold start injector

I have an '87 TPI and doing an engine swap into '87 Landcrusier. Engine will turn over, but won't start...great spark in all cyl., fuel pump primes for 2 seconds and has 37 psi to the fuel rail, but no injector pulse. I replaced all the wiring on the injectors, power circuts and inline fuses to them, including the driver circuit from the ecm. I replaced the ecm -165 twice thinking it may be the ecm from the diagnostic diagrams.
My question is: I have the cold start injector installed but am wondering if the engine should fire for a few seconds with the cold start injector but no injector pulse? The vats system was disabled on the programed chip I had burned. Does this sound like there is no reference signal from the distrib. to the ecm maybe wired incorrectly or ? Any ideas for me to check? frustrated but know this puppy will run!! HELP!!!!

Doubtful, the thermo-time switch is only energized during crank and has a heater element in it to kick it off, regardless of temp., in a matter of seconds. If it's (engine or air temp) already warm, the injector won't do anything, IIRC.

I don't believe there was VATS on any '87s to begin with.

Good possibility.

KeyOn- Unplugging the 4 pin connector at the dist and quickly touching +12v to the ppl/wht wire terminal should make the injectors pulse (once) and the pump briefly run (about 2 seconds, same as prime). If this is true, then you may have a dead ignition module in the distributor.

Re: cold start injector

thanks, will try disconnecting the distrib and run jumper test you described from 12V to purple/white wire... but, should i leave all the injectors hooked up and just disconnect one and put node light on it or disconnect all injectors and put the node light on one of the injector connectors?

Re: cold start injector

I can't imagine you needing a light, you should be able hear them, unless you're in a really noisy area I suppose.
If you can't hear them, you should be able to hear the FP relay (by brake booster) trigger at the same time.

Keep in mind, don't hold +12v to the wire, just quickly tap it. You're basically tricking the ECM into seeing a distributor pulse which should cause it to pulse the injectors and run the pump.

Re: cold start injector

I pulled the 4 pin connector from the distributor turned the key on and quickly touched the purple/white wire with +12V jumper cable....nothing....not even a fuel pump relay prime! What is this telling us? my brand new ecm is faulty?

Re: cold start injector

I'd start with verifying the wiring to the ECM before jumping to the conclusion it's the ECM itself.

I'd rule out the I/M, for the moment, only due to testing the reference circuit direct with a failed result.
