New belt set up

Well I redid the twin blower setup to use its own belt vs the long single I had originally used. Shredding a $35 belt with regularity was getting old.

Moved both blowers forward, shortened the pipes to the intercoolers, and relocated and added a second bov.

Fabbed up a dual crank pulley by welding a Ford SC blower crank pulley to the existing TPI serpentine pulley.

Blowers now have a 78" 8 rib belt all to there own, and the alt,WP,PS have a 77.5" 6 rib for them.

Adding the second bov has made the blowers much quieter. The single apparently did not pass enough volume causing boosted air to back flush the blowers.. You can now hear the injectors ticking at idle.

Now to clean the thing up and take her for a test drive.

Looks great Saturn. Can't wait to hear how the test drive goes.

Blowers are mounted just above the valve covers. Unbolt the blowers and plates and its just a plain ol tune port motor.

thanks, BW

Test drive went well... spun the engine to 6K in first, hit second, and lifted.. and the belt stayed in place. It would have tossed it before.. About the only problem was the dipstick wasn't seated and oil blew out the tube.. nasty splatter all over.

Waiting for the second bov to arrive.. that will help too.

Boost is down to 8 lb, which I figured since the new crank pulley is 1/4" smaller diameter. Need to scrounge up some 10% overdrive pulleys for the blowers.

cheers, BW

I've hit the track twice, with the 14.4 run the best so far of 3 runs made. Between belt problems, and lack of traction (no dots or slicks) thats as good as its been. The 305 I'm currently running is a POS I am using to build/test/debug the blowers. Now that I beleive the bugs are sorted a new motor is being built. Also will upgrade the rear for slicks this winter.

It's been a fun summer playing with this puppy. BW

As far as a chevy goes, I am not aware of any other than rooster433's single M112 blown LT1.

I know of a couple Fords.

83 Crossfire TA's brother's 5.0L single M90 LDTII and Mike Sitar's twin eaton Thunderbird.

Mike's site, www.toohighpsi.com is what made me try a chevy version.

Cheap and functional, possibly, however it's still a one off type project.

Wow that a 305. Ok that makes sense. Plus all the trouble you've been having with bugs and all. Whats the new build up look like? Are you sticking with TPI? What are your expected HP numbers?
Good luck dude. The look of your setup alone would scare most people. Never mind how fast your going to go.

Personally, no. I have never spoken to Mike, and I have never seen him post here. He's a big Ford racer, probably find him on one of the blue oval boards.

yes, that is what he said, and he also said that he had a massive amount of wheels spin. he said that he spun to 6k in first and the hit second and lifted.

I think your confusing two different times.

At the strip, both wheel spin, and belt tossing at the top end have limited my strip time, and et's.

The 6K shift to second lift, is after I redid the belts to two, and was trying to get it to chuck the belt. So far.. so good.

thanks, Bob

Mike sold the twin eaton setup off the t-bird and has converted the car to be a single turbo car to run in the drag radial classes. Last I talked with him he was hinting at doing something similar to a C4 vette that he picked up last year.

It’s an air to water intercooler mounted as part of the upper manifold. The lower started as a stock 351 truck manifold that he’s milled. The upper also has bosses for 8 extra injectors. Mike has a friend that makes intercoolers and made this one and the one on crazy joe’s car (there are links to his stuff on the site and you can see a pic of him working on the one in crazy joe’s car on the site).
