turbo question
turbo question
i have access to a turbo from a early 5.9 liter cummins deisel, its a holset they used two sizes and i have the smaller one with no wastgate. I will get some numbers if it will help i was wondering how it would work out on my 366ci big block, that will need the cam changed to beter acomadate boost but thats no biggie. I'm just looking for sugestions or possible problems things like that i dont expect to make huge hp numbers but some gain would be nice.

The 366 was a BBC that was used in a lot of heavy duty trucks. Kind of like the tall deck 427's that no street guy wants. I think it would work fine on the 366, but I would never use a 366 for anthing but a table in the garage. They are an oddball engine. if you are set on using it, then I would check with Comp Cams and see what they suggest as far as a cam. I have only seen one of these once so please forgive the memory, but if the deck height is the same as a 396, or 454, then I would use a different intake also. Hope this helps.
yes the 366 came out of a school bus it makes tons of low end torque. It is in a 69 chevy pickup now with a little port work and a larger cam which probably has to much overlap for a turbo. But any way summit sells a tall deck intake with injector bosses in it and i have the engine and the turbo so i figure why not play with it. I will get some numbers off of the turbo for you guys i'm really just using it as a learning expirience and wanted some thoughts on the idea.

a 366 is to bigblocks, as a 265 is to small blocks. the physical dimensions are all bigblock, it uses the 427/396 stroke but has a tiny bore. the heads are the super small oval "peanut" port designed to add torque. the good thing about 366's is they are usually free, the bad thing is that even built well they cant outpower a 350 SBC but the weight is almost 2X more due to the small bores and the heavy duty casting.
