Adding more power Via .. anythign mostly

I was not sure if there was such a thing as a bolt on blower kit or what not, or any type of kit that I could do. I was looking to add either a turbo or a blower for under 500$. Anyone up for any suggestions? i have a 305 v8 1987 camaro.

Good luck. My budget Twin Turbo preoject has gone wayyyyy over budget. It's gonna cost me more than that for a carb.

You will either need to re prioritize your life or budget more money for this project. The following is not specifically targeted at you but instead to anyone that thinks they need more 3rd gen dollars. Why eat steak when microwave burritos and ramen noodles will do, that’s a little extreme, but those who haven’t tried it have though of it. We are all guilty of eating too much fast food, the average person spends WAY too much on fast food, and just cooking at home can make a huge difference in your budget. If you stop smoking (what ever it is you smoke), because we all know smokes are really expensive, this can put thousands back in your pocket. How often do you let your buddies talk you into going out and partying? Limit yourself to just the weekend of just one night on the weekend. Better yet consider NOT drinking and going to church instead, find a relative that goes and go with them. how many of us have too many electronic leashes, do you have a cell phone with umpteen billion minutes and you only use like 750 a month, or do <worse> go over your minutes?, consider changing plans, your cell company will actually review your history and suggest a different plan, do you have a pager and a mobile web PDA too, I think you should reconsider. If you’re paying for AOL, then there is no hope for you go and down load JUNO and get free service! If you have already done all these things these kinds of things the you “should a stayed in scool”, If you are in school, then graduate, and get a good job, and don’t be a screw up. This will help you budget out more money for 3 rd gen dollar! Because all you can afford now is either nitrous or the KEWL NEON LIGHTS that make your car look like its "floating on air".

If you're going for a technical degree (engineering, etc...) in college, you can always try to get the school to cover part of it. It's how I started the Z28tt. Tufts didn't want anything to do with my speed obsession, but I made a case how designing a complete system is a very good engineering challenge. On a budget - even more so! They chipped in a few hundred to cover phone calls, printing costs, mailing, & some raw materials, and the rest was my own $ or donations/discounts/advice from aftermarket companies. You can't expect someone to give you something for nothing, but if you show how it benefits them, and is worth their effort, you might just get some help. Good luck!

Well If I was thinking in third gen dollars I wouldn't own my camaro right now, everyone told me I would not be able to get my car and do to it what I have already done. I was but just asking for help, what I have mostly is time. Now Im pretty sure if i wait around for the right thing I will be able to get a blower or a turbo under 500$ before I add up the installation fee's, now you guys don't have to help me, or try to discourage me from doing what I want to do. If anyone could tell me where to look for a blower or a turbo cheap and what to look for in them before I bought it that would be helpfull. If someone would be able to give me an general idea for what i could do that would be great. thanks.

Are you talking about turbos? If so, it's a lot of work to put those on.

I think the RTFM manual you should read would be the two books listed in the turbo sticky topic at the very top of the power adder forum

If you have AC that'll make it harder. Then you have to make custom headers or buy some S10 conversion headers. Do you have a welder, torch etc? Can you weld and fabricate? Also your brake lines are in the way. It''s a lot of work but it's not too hard.

Ok, looked into a little bit more, I saw that people are selling inclousure boxe's for carburetors. would i be able to have the turbo'ed air go right into the top of the carb? or do i need to get an enclosure box? And does it matter at which point i put the turbo in the exhaust system? Like can i put it right before the the exhaust goes into my cat? and then have the pressurized air go back up to the carb? thanks again

i don't mean to pick on you, but really, if you're asking these questions and are really on any sort of restricted budget (say 2x or more what you've listed) then I wouldn't bother looking for a cheap or home built power adder. You'll just get frustrated and in way over your head...

All I wanted to know if it was possible for me to buy just the power adder for under or around 500$ not before adding new headers or the fabrication, just hte actual turbo. And I see from bhaas that is possible.

I did. Bought two .60/.63 A/R T3's from the junkyard for about $100 total. Picked up a cartridge for about $125 off ebay to fix one of them. I'm only in it about $225 so far, but I also have nothing done.
You don't need the enclosure box for the carb. You can use a bonnet like I believe K&N sells.

for the money you want to spend,id say n2o is the way to go. its cheap, and way easier to install than turbos or superchargers from what ive been told. Iv ebeen asking myself the same questions, and it just seems that n2o is the best solution for me anyways.(even tho id kill for a nice turbo or supercharger)
if i could get some more feedback on my n2o and motor setup idea a few posts from here id try it and let you know how it all goes
