Do superchargers decrease longetivity?

I have heard that supercharger abuse can be brutal for the guts of ones car. However, with stock supercharged Cobras comin out, makes me wonder how bad they actually are. I was thinking about putting one on, but I simply do not know. Will it hurt my engine, or is it just a myth?

Yup, it will last a while but eventually it will go south even if you are the best tuner in the world

Supercharged cobras come with forged pistons, forged rods, and a forged crank. I also believe the pistons are coated

You should be able to put 700-800hp through that motor from ford before running into issues

Then do a ****ing search. King actually makes some good posts here. Don't come on here and start ****. Besides, think about it a little bit. The more power you put through your engine the more stress its going to be under. With a typical cast crank and pistons the engine will eventually give in. It could be years, it could be days, it all depends on the condition of the engine. If the engine is built to be supercharged / turbocharged it will last longer.

A little common courtesy from Saturn is much appreciated, instead of some snide remark from a know it all. BTW, I did search, and couldn't find an answer! Thank you and goodnight.

LOL Boy won't my wife be surprised..

But once again common sense says that anytime you increase chamber/combustion pressures that yes it can decrease engine life.. especially if you go lean..

But hey.. grow up.

Alright, Im sorry Saturn. But, if a car NOOB such as myself as a NOOB question, I'de rather not get lambasted for it. Simply not replying is good enough. But I did check the boards. But anyway, sorry, rough day. Late.

If you did a search, simply state that. People come on here all the time asking about turbo kits and whatnot, so a lot of us on here tell you to do a search. Don't go calling everybody a *** and you'll get farther. Also, if you want some good information on supercharging pick up the book "Supercharged" by Corky Bell. There is a section in there on what you were asking about.
