Fuel return line dilema!!!

I am in the process of redoing certain areas of my fuel system this winter to better accomodate my 355 addicted to a NX Hitman nitrous system.I am currently running a Holley pro series "black" electric pump.I run the Mallory (#4309) 3 port regulator with return line hooked up to the stock sending unit.Question is..does the return line have to extend to near the bottom of the tank where it dumps inside?I am going to weld an -8AN steel fitting to the back of the tank for the main feed line to the pump..no biggy there.Did a few searchs and this seems to be the easiest way along with the problem of no way of running a true sump with stock configuration exhaust..muffler out back. Then I plan to weld another -8AN steel fitting to the topmost part of the tank on the front (right behind the rear seats driver side) for the return line.Do I need to have a piece of steel fuel line extend from the fitting (inside the tank now) and turn 90 degrees down into the tank to dump the returned fuel closer to the bottom of the tank?Or can I let it just dump from the fitting up high on the tank?I have heard from a few people (you know how that goes...lol) that just letting it dump from the fitting into the tank will aerate the fuel if less than a full tank of fuel and cause problems with pressure, flow, etc.Anyone been thru this..have ideas or suggestions more than welcome.Anything is much appreciated.

may be true but what about when your driving and the gas is sloshing and spashing everywhere.

I have a -8 90 in the top of my tank and i have no problems except when i stop on a decline and and only have about 1/4 of a tank. other than that. the system works great.

The fitting you describe is your return line or feed? What does it do exactly do when less than 1/4 tank on an incline?

it's actually on a decline but, the pump whines like's starving but i have a -12 90 going out of the bottom of the tank to a filter and an external weldon pump. for the return line i have a -8 fitting going in to the top of the tank just to the side of where the fatory lines are. just make sure you either plug or remove the fatory lines not being used or when your tank pressurizes it will siphon all the gas out and on to the ground.

if i can get a hold of a digital camera i'll take some. but, i've had the car for like 7 years and don't have many at all. looks like i'm going to best buy this weekend. most of the system is hidden under the heat sheild except the lines and pump.

make sure you get a fitting welded into the tank i used 5 different epoxys before i got the steel fitting. that means pulling the tank down that many times. i can do it in like 2 hours or less now.

1989gta..many thanks for the help...got a much more clear plan of how I am going to set this up.I bought steel fittings and am going to MIG them on so hopefully I won't have to worry about leaks.Only thing is after seeing you are running a -12AN feed..I wonder if I should go larger on feed in case I ever step up in hp either motor ..juice or both.Might just get a -10 or -12 fitting and just reduce down to the -6 but have it there just in case. The feed line and fitting clears your exhaust?I was worried it would be tight routing of the line with the muffler right there under the heat shield. The return I am happy to see (from your experiences) I can weld up on top of the tank..I was going to go into the front side..didn't think there was enough room between tank and floor pan for the fitting and hose on top.I would much rather return to the top of the tank.Where is your pump mounted in the car?I have mine behind the rear seat but am thinking I need to move it back closer to where my new feed will be.Again many many thanks for all this info..it's helping out greatly.I like to try and plan out this type of project before I dive in and ruin something.Much appreciation!

the 90 fitting faces to the driver side then to the filter and up along the tank to the top where all your stock stuff is. then down along the body to where your brake lines and everything is mounted, i just made a braket mounted the pump here. I called weldon and they said the pump has sucktion capabilities and you can mount the pump up to a foot higher than the tank and in any position. i used flex hose -12 up to the pump and then aluminum the rest of the way up -10

if you have any ?s i can try and answer them cause i ran into every problem i can think of so i talked to a lot of reps.
