305, N02/sc
305, N02/sc
I have some decent questions.
I have a rebuilt 305. It has 12,000 miles on it, and it's safe to say it's broken in
It brought me to a 14.91 with stock everything besides a gutted MAF and k&n's, except it has a mild cam.
I was the original purchase/build receipt. The motor was in my friends B4Z (original L98 was all blowed up, haha) It was a $3,000 rebuild (not including install). So I'm not exactly sure of the work/parts inside the motor.
This winter the upgrade project has been this = Edelbrock TES headers & dual exhaust & 2 cutouts. The headers are complete and I'm laying out a design for the duals to dump out the sides.
I removed all of my smog equipment this past summer & all my ac equip.
Question is...
I can get an adjustable 75-150hp nitrous kit for around $595 if I remember correctly.
I will get a personal loan that I'll be capable of paying off by March to purchase a SC.
I'm hoping to get 70-80k miles out of this motor if I'm going to be adding some extra HP to it. I'm leaning towards the nitrous kit as I can activate it when I want, but then I'm leaning towards a SC as I plan to occasionally run her at the track (less traction issues than activating NO2 in 2nd right?)
I'm not exactly worried about traction as it is, I had a 1.9 60' time with a stock suspension & Firestone meats in the back.
Shoot me some advice and idea's.

- Edelbrock TES Headers
- Emissions equipment removed
- Mild cam (feels strongest from 2500 to 5000rpm)
- $3k rebuild

What was your mph on that 14.9 run? 88 mph? with a 1.9 60' damn. Headers and exhaust will wake you car up a lot. For cost reasons I would run the N2O I got my kit used plus extra's I needed for less than $450-500(This will be for sale soon, bought D1-SC). I ran a 14.3 @ 96.8 mph with a non-custom chip and a 13.6 @103-104 on a small shot(~75hp) with 2.2X 60' both times, check sign for other mods. The car ran 14.6 @ 96.4 mph w/ stock cam, stock long block,no pullies, AFPR etc.
I think the SC will kill the engine quicker than a moderate shot of N2O. IMHO.

I never really had a problem hooking up for traction, I was really shocked but I was consistantly pulling 1.9-2.0 60' times.
My mph, let me look at the time slip - 87.8., shows how hard it was breathing top-end

I'm somewhat new to the boards, but as for N20 it would be my choice, and it is as of now. All that's needed is a good fuel system on the slightly rich side, and 1 stage colder plugs. an MSD is a plus too. When going SC'd there is so much more involved, by the time you're done tuning you may have already hurt many parts. no to mention it is terribly expensive. My Formula has been doing fine on a 150 shot with a stand alone fuel system, MSD 6AL, even with 6 º advance.
