twin turbo intercooler question

I am planning on doing a twin turbo setup for my 305 tpi...i have just one question. Are there intercoolers with two inlets and one outlet? Or would I have to make both thrubos go into one end of the intercooler. I really dont know much about intercoolers actually so any recomendations would help.

You can do it both ways. You can have to inlets and one outlet. Or you can have one inlet and one outlet.

go to www.spearcointercoolers.com and look at some of the pictures there. Should clear things up for you.

One in and one out is almost always cheaper. Plus you get a more balanced flow across the intercooler by combining them early. The two chargers aren't going to run exactly the same, so the more you try and balance them the better it'll run. Just like on dual exhaust systems and cross over pipes.

I'll agree that you'll never get your 2 turbos running exactly the same, but I would bet that if you put one inlet on each end of the tank and built them fairly evenly you'll get much more even flow across the intercooler then most single inlet setups (typically the inlet is in one corner and the outlet is in the next corner, concentrating most of the flow to one side of the intercooler).

You might also get a marginal improvement in response if a twin inlet intercooler means less volume (less piping) between the turbo outlets and TB, of course, that is up to the layout that you end up with.

Unless you find somethign about the right size premade, I'd say go with whatever ends up being easier to package, since you'll be custom making something anyway.
