NEWBE looking for a power adder
Hey ya'll...i'm totally clueless on working on performance mods. But i'm a cheap highschooler with a 305 TPI TA that is looking to do some inconspicous mods to get a little extra hp out of my car. Everything is stock and i don't want to do anything to noticable or that will be a detrement to my engine or kill my gas mileage. Any suggestions from you :hail:Pros:hail: would be appreciated and pics would help explain. I'm ignorant when it comes to working on cars but i'm willing to learn. Thanks ahead!

okay, just get some cheap headers, or port some exhaust manifolds, total investment, 100$, 200$ if you get a y-pipe.
gut your airbox, make some sort of ram air system, to feed the engine cool air, look around on various sites, see what they have done.
if its an auto, put a BIG tranny cooler on it. you wont go faster immediately, but as much as these transmissions suck, it will help you in the long run.
take off your front sway bar should net you .1 or .2 in the 1/4.
pull ANY weight out of it you can, spare tire/jack, sound deadening under carpet, a/c, power steering, etc. any weight you can pull out will save your gas mileage, and wear and tear.

Thanks Adam...I'm going to look for some good headers...basically i'm looking to spend no more then about 400-600 bucks...i can't afford much more. Ya'll know if the ram air hood and air box help any? I've thought about that homemade airbox using the foglights as ducts...any pros and cons there? Thanks
a buddy of mine has an 87 tpi formula, he made a boxed aluminum duct, down to his airdam, he swears it picked up alot, i personally noticed a small gain when gutting the box on my nissan daily driver, and getting creative with where it draws air from.
i would be weary of how low you have the filter at, because you dont want to pickup water in the rain. BOOM!
if i had one of these cars. this is how i would spend my money.
NITROUS KIT, posi, drag radials.
simple as that, third gens are the least responsive vehicles it seems, because of the TPI, restricting flow to anything more than moderate RPM,
spray a 125 shot, with traction, you should have a 12 second car.
it should live a long time, just make sure and keep the a/f good.
