supercharged 305 ?'s

well my 305 has 173,000 on it. So i'm going to re build it. SO i figured why not rebuild with parts so i can supercharge it. What kind of parts should be put in so that i can run 5-7psi of boost. This car is my daily driver. Should i switch to tpi or just keep my tbi. I would drop in a 350 but i want somthing diffrent. I know it will not be the fastest but i will be alot faster then it is now. thanks guys for the input.

You could seriously run 5lbs on your car right now..I'd build it for more boost, if your really are going to build it..Why such a low number?

i just don't really know how much boost my motor could hold. I also need it to be reliable because it's my daily driver.

I installed my Paxton back in 1996, you are right the kit was really designed for the chevy truck. I ran the blower on the street for 5 years before making it a bracket car. The blower makes 10# of boost at 5,000 rpm. The motor has 95k on it and runs great.

what kind of bracket time does it run? what did it run with just the TBI? I figure if a blower gets a TBI car to rund 14 or 13 second times after running 17 or 16 seconds to begin with that is a success!

The car was running high 15's before the blower and the current times are in my signature. Most definatly worth the effort.

For some reason did not show signature:

Car runs 8.06 1/8 at 85.6 mph which is about a 12.5-12.6 in the 1/4 mile.

I was thinking that i want to run the vortech 8 psi supercharger on my 305 tbi. I know this is not possible so i will have to convert to TPI. I was wondering what the differences are between a 305 tbi and a 305 tpi as far as cam and heads and do you think a stock bottom end with 62K can take the 8lbs? I need it to be mild enough to be a street car but still kick me back in the seat. Thanks a lot.

before you do convert look at what ' Racer3313 ' above you in this thread did with his TBI and also check out this thread I have placed below here. Both have combined the TBI truck tuning parts with the TPI kits already available to make a TBI thirdgen kit that was never offered:

There is no kit or part #, basically you have to get a kit made for a TPI and request the FMU ratio'd for a TBI truck kit and the air box for a TBI truck from ATI. I would rocommend just getting the cheapest kit they have, maybe a P600B blower with the standard intercooler. The very last inlet pipe that goes to the TPI is special and cast, you could see if it will save you money if they leave that out. The TBI "top" is a box see the one in the link and contact that guy for some assistance of his experience in ordering and tuning.

I would have to recommend that you look for the best price on a TPI kit and figure about $500 more for the TBI parts
