1 more blower cam ???
1 more blower cam ???
I am building a 383 with hsr /d1sc pro1 heads with 2.05 vales.all forged internals pro-built tranny vig converter 12 bolt rear(you know the normal things we do when doing a project).but this cam has got me confused. what do you guys think about this one from comp's xe line dur:224/236 lift:567/585 on a 114 lsa?this will be a street/strip car.any advise would be appreciated.thanks
I have a similar Comp XE hydraulic flat tappet cam in my 383 with roots blower. It specs out at 224/230 on a 114* LSA with lift in about the .510 range using 1.6 rockers (I'm assuming you're looking at a roller or mechanical flat tappet XE cam with greater lift?).
It's really a very mild combo in my car and it'll idle all day long with very little lope and just a bit of chop to the idle. Power is strong and level from about 2000-up, but remember I'm running a roots blower which makes full boost throughout the entire RPM range. Even at only 5 PSI and never revving past 6000 this combo will run mid 12s @ 115-116 on street tires with highway gears and a 3-speed automatic with stock stall converter in a 3600lb car. I'd say I'm making a real 450+ at the flywheel but with a lot more torque than any N/A small block putting out similar HP numbers.

With a roller cam it's going to act a bit more radical in all ways than my flat tappet cam. More high RPM power, lumpier idle, less vacuum. Not by a lot, but it's difficult to make direct comparisons between rollers and flat tappets based on .050 specs.
