worst forced induction ever
I was on the internet the other day and found this car. I think it is a 92 rs. the guy took an electric leaf blower and put it on the end of the snorkel then hooked it to a switch in his car. guy claimed a .3 or so drop in 1/4 mi. I just couldn't stop laughing when I saw this. just thought I would share.

Most likely he's running a big power inverter, a rather inefficient way of doing it.

at the TA nationals in 2k2 there was a 4th gen in the Super Street Class(power adder class) that has TWO of those on it.....The funnier part of it was the fact that he had a BIG boost gauge in the interior...
It was one of the most ghetto setups Ive ever seen...Oh yeah and it had about 40 pounds of chrome plated wire loom as well..Ill look for the pic....hands down it was one of the saddest things Ive ever seen...It was a source of jkes from everyone at the show...and the Vanilla Ice wanna be was strutting around the thing all PROUD of it...LOL

it isn't a photoshop. the guy runs it like that, notice the missing washer fluid bottle on that side. was the only way to get it to fit in there

It wouldnt be forced induction even if it had a big enough blower on it. Nothing in that system is pressurized. Poor guy

Probably works 100% better than some of the "Electric Superchargers" I've seen on ebay. I LMFO everytime I see them... 292 CFM Max now that building up pressure off a fan

I thought it might have been a photo chop when I seen the weird looking blurs above the oversized leaf blower. Near the radiator has some weird looking lines just hanging out in the error.
Course that reflection might be hard to duplicate on leaf blower itself.
Probably just a crappy camera... I've learned to never doubt how stupid some people are.

At the rate of 55 amps being drawn from the alternator, I dont think the 1psi would even make enough power to compensate for the extra power being used to turn the alternator to produce 55 amps. 1psi for $360. Wow, what a deal!

Were they using the leaf blower to force the NOS in too?? Sure looked like it in the last video. That’s actually pretty cool but I don’t think its would be worth the money or time trying to figure out how to make it run and a place to put it.

i dont know but they did a NOS and blower test and it picked up alot! from 138 base to 184 whp with both nitrous and blower.
i agree, i wouldnt do that to my car but it does show that it works to some degree...
but my guess is that its like the ram air effect when a car is moving. high speeds when your driving kinda ram air into the intake track if you have a ram air setup. so a car dyno'd standing still will make less power than if you could dyno the car on the move at like 70mph

You would also have to consider aerodynamic drag put on a car at 70+ MPH if you were considering that.
To sum up the video:
2005 Civic SI
baseline: 138.0 HP
gas leaf blower: 148.9 HP (+10.9 HP and 1 guy under the hood)

once while screwing with our lightning on the dyno I disconnected the maf from the airbox and it was so loud it gave me hearing damage.
I raised the hp by like 30 hp by spraying compressed air at a distance into the MAF.
I then did the same with a nitrous bottle yielding around 50 hp.
shortly after we installed a 125 shot on the truck and ran 11.89 at st louis as the fastest street light ning at WFC.

It's funny... Me and a buddy at work discussed it for his car, jokingly at first, then after we kept talking about it and thinking of the pros and cons, it kept sounding like a weird but interesting idea.
You see, his car is a VW bug, so the small engine probably would see a good deal of boost off a leaf blower. Then instead of running it off your main battery (through a inverter) run it off a seperate deep cycle battery that is independent... then just charge that battery inbetween rounds or whatever.
Crazy ideas, i know, but it almost seemed like it would be a fun idea to try.
Now on a v8... I don't see it making much boost.

ive got an idea...
Run a gas leaf blower and you can hook the throttle cable on it up to your carb/tb whatever you have and you can use the washer fluid jug for a gas tank for it
That way itll have enough gas to run for a while and its also variable boost

It is possible to do, but not worth it for the gains. Greddy DOES make an electric supercharger (like the cheapo ebay ones), but it's like $2000.
Done right, why wouldn't an electric one work?

whopping 68hp at 5000rpms and 76lbs/ft of torque at 3000rpms
yes boys my car makes more torque then horsepower MY CAR MAKES MORE TORQUE THEN HOSEPOWERAND IT IS A HONDA and hell it even makes it quite low for a honda 4 cylinder

but I am getting more and more curious now about trying this I'm just little worried about trying it cause from what I understand I only have a 30amp alternator, and just finished rebuild the stupid damn keihin 3bbl carb and I'm still working out the idle mixtures.
and then comes jetting. these cars are designed to run lean as is so with more air flow who knows what would happen.
but I might actually have an idea as to why these things "MIGHT" work
you guys seem to be thinking about it all in terms of boost. yeah so it might not produce any boost. but then again does adding a set of heads or a cam make for boost pressure? not really. the only thing it might be doing is reducing restriction artificially.
well in a way it would be like doing that. would it work on a larger motor doubtfull. on a puny little motor. maybe?
they don't draw in enough air. hell my stock carb is only rated at I think 150cfm. and you know the way a lot of manufacs put carbs on their car. a little more cfm then what the motor can even suck in. though that little carb hopefully will get replaced with a webber design soon enough.
but don't get me wrong I still think it is a stupid idea, and a scam for the most part.
still though those guys seem like they are cool enough. if you see on the first clip with the honda one o fthe guys in the background is laughing his *** off. now if you had the time the money and the tools to do this wouldn't you try it just for ****s and giggles and wouldn't you be laughing the hwole time?

i alway see those electric "supercharger" kits on ebay where its just a small electric fan that adds up to 35 hp.... my A$$!! it kinda looks like that... maybe hes the inventor of it lol
