Looking to get a supercharger
I am looking to do a supercharger on an 87 IROC, 350 TPI. It is a newly rebuilt stock engine. How much boost could I safely run and what kind of HP numbers would I be getting?
I looked around at the kits and around $3500 was all I could find. How much did you guys spend on yours? I would want to do this cheap and I know a lot of you fabricated parts. What is the cheapest I could do this and what parts should I be looking for?

I have a '92 RS that I use as my daily driver. Could I move all the TPI acc over to that car and move the RS stuff to the IROC? That would be awesome because I wouldn't have to pay for all new ACC just that one bracket.
What should I be expecting as far as cost goes? I would most likely be buying used and fabricating anything that is plausable to do so.

probably but it would be twice the work, used serp setups are not terribly expensive. I have seen many on ebay.

I would not go over 10-psig with an intercooler or 6-psig without. You'll probably gain roughly 100hp with the intercooler setup.

That seems about right but depends on the model and whether you intercool it or not.

As long as you have the serpentine belt setup, no fabbing is needed.
I have a '92 RS that I use as my daily driver.
I owned an '92 RS (305) at one time. I swapped the serpentine setup from it to my 87 305 TPI and installed the v-belt system from my '87 to the '92. Just make sure to swap water pumps too. Note: the TBI alternator is an 85-amp unit whereas the 87 TPI is a 105-amp. Unfortunately, the clocking on these units is different so they are not interchangeable. You may have to buy a 92 TPI (105-amp) alternator to use on your '87.

I have been looking around ebay and it seems like I can get just the supercharger(ATI procharger) for around $500 to $600. Which model would I be looking for to run around 10 psi? I saw your big thread about getting the intercoolers installed in your car. How much does just an intercooler run? Other than the bracket to mount the supercharger to the car it seems like the rest of the kit is the tubing. Seems like one could put together a setup for more like $1500 or with an intercooler. Am I totally off base here?

you already said you have $3500 that would more than get you a very nice kit. Did you say you have cast performance or forged pistons? If you have forged go D-1sc and 3core intercooled. If you have cast then consider a P-1sc head unit.

I never said I had $3500 sitting around. I am trying to see how cheap I can do this. I have to ask the guy who built the engine what is in it. I bought the car with the rebuilt in it. Are there specific intercoolers for the kits or can I just find one what physically fits and has proper cooling and be set?

no you misunderstood me. I was just saying if you wish to make it yourself, why not make it yourself a turbo? In my personal opinion blowers are nice because they come as a kit. The nicest turbo setups always seem to be built from scratch.

oh, i c where you were comming from. I thought about a turbo but that requires welding and new headers which cost $$. On a supercharger the ducting is cheap and readily avalible at a hardware store, intercoolers are all over the place on ebay, and if I could get someone to send me a design for the mounting plate I could have one made at one of my buddies work place. It just seems easier than going to a turbo.

Its your choice depending on how much power you want to make.
I'm guessing you have some ****ty cast pistons in there, I wouldnt run more then 6-7lbs. You will see some decent gains. You have some supporting mods also, headers, exhaust?
