2X small intercoolers, or NO intercooler??

I was going to pick up 2X small 1g DSM eclipse intercoolers off ebay for my budget twin turbo project. Problem is, i hear they only work well until about 250 horsepower each.

I plan on pushing 300~+ horsepower per turbo, so it will push these IC's to the limits. would it be such a bad restriction that i should just run the turbos without intercoolers instead?

my other, more costly option, would be to get 2X supra intercoolers instead. better idea, but will it be THAT much better?

I think I would try it, you could even try to lay it out like the ATI twin IC setup. There are DSM guys taxing the stock IC above 250 (by just a tad).

FWIW

My TT Iroc runs 2 89-90 Ford Probe GT intercoolers. They have 1 7/8" inlets and outlets. I know that sounds a little small, but the import crowd seems to think they are somewhat decent as they are used in a lot of custom turbo systems. I stilll am not sure if they are better than no intercoolers (they cause approx 2psi pressure drop), but they sure look nice and make the system appear to be more high tech. Since I was not going for all out performance, awe effect was a important. As a side note, power is addictive, and even though max performance was not my original goal, I really hunger for more power!. Anyway, remember what Corky Bell said in his book- "It is absolutely wrong to think that any intercooler is better than no intercooler."

I plan on 12-14 PSI so i think it necessary, but not sure if the DSM ones are good enough...

well if they turn out to be a huge restriction then 12-14 psi shouldn't be a problem

ok seriously, if they only flowed the 250 each that is still 500 hp, if you can eek out another 50 hp per IC then 600, what are you trying to make?

The older supra 2.5L intercoolers are nice I don't rember what DSM intercoolers are like.
I all most went with supra or porch intercoolers, the supra IC's were a little to bulky to have 2 of them and the porch 3.3L or 3.0L (I don't rember what it was) where to small looking all most like a RX7 IC's.
The saab IC's were about the right size package for me to use 2 of them.
I think out of the 2 you would be best off with the supra IC's.

Yes i think im going with Supra intercoolers, they are black and stealthy, and apparently will handle the pressure.

Im shooting for as much power as i can make with what ive got invested. if its 500 or 800, i wont know till i turn up the boost!

this entire project will be fabricated, by me and me alone, and im going to get it all on camera (you know, to show people what NOT to do!)

Here's what some of the JYTT mustang guys have done. Three smaller cores, with custom end tanks welded up. This one is 3 saab 900 cores, ive seen it done with dsm cores as well. If only I could weld aluminum. . .

that looks like a much cheaper better idea, im going to do some research on making my own intercooler like that. maybe one of the local boat shops..
