Blower/Turbo Air Intake Problem; OVAL TB

For my 2 turbos I have 2.5" intake tube running from the outlets towards the throttle body...

Problem is, when they come together Im going to want to run an OVAL tube (much larger) to the throttle body. Where can I get an Oval tube like that, that I can use to bring the two turbo outlets together and not leak any boost? I cant even find any silicone couplers oval shaped, or oval clamps. where can i get all that stuff?

bigtime was telling me you can buy 4" round piping, and just kinda bend it into that oval shape... and the clamps and silicone couplers will flex into an oval shape just fine

Take a 2.5" tube, slice it lengthwise and add whatever width piece to it you need to get the size you want...

Ive ovalized a 4" tube to match the TB. That is what it is. it works fine.

You can BUY round to oval tubing.... My exhauust starts out 4" od on the downpipe then as it bends under the car I have a transition bend that converts round to oval tubing then the rest of my exhaust is OVAL... this gives me the needed ground clearance with big DIA eahaust...

Anyway .... Burns stainless makes them... I believe stainless works has them as well....Plus many other places if you just want aluminized...

They are called transitions...

Cool guys, sounds like a straight piece of 4" round tube bent into an oval shape is the cheapest way to go.

the next dillema is what kind of air filters to run on the end of the turbos I Dont think i can afford 2X K&N cones right now, what are my alternatives there?

You can buy it bent anyway you want.....They will make the tube anyway you ask them too...

As for the filters I just used a Summit (K&N ripoff) filter....It works nice and was like 27.00

I Seem to recall a guy with a T04 turbo running a K&N / Summit (cotton wire with Oil filter) complaining about how the turbo was sucking the oil off the filter during high boost. Im worried that "turbos dont like little droplets of oil hitting them at 100,000 rpms." (quote from somewhere on this board) what do you guys think about that?

I made mine, on the last one I did I just used a 3 to 4 transition hose i got from turbohoses.com I ran a 4" pipe to under my car where I put a K&N filter 4X6X10. If you need to make a tight turn for the incoming air they sell rubber "cobra elbows".

The "oiling problems" associated with K&N or summit or accel or any of the others has to do with the "idiot" that oils them.... People think that when you recharge a K&N or similar oil flter that you OIL the **** out of the filter..*** by light coat they mean light coat..this will cause it to leak through..Ive seen guys with K&N filters looking like they dumped them in a bucket of Soul Glo before installing them... Obviously they dont flow well and pull oil...

ALSO another part of the problem is water.... If the Outer filter gets wet it will inhibit flow and cause the oil to get sucked into the intake as well...If you look in the import world guys will run a filter bypass so when the filter gets wet or is hard to pull through it bypasses the filter altogether..

For me I run a filter for street driving and NO filter for racing... I use LIGHT oil on mine...very light... so Im not too worried about it.... My Blower setupd never pulled oil in through the filter...so I expect the turbo system to be no different...

First, the proper way to oil a gauze filter is to apply a little bit of oil at the base of the pleats and allow capillary action to pull the oil all the way through. It could take overnight before it's right, but when it is, it's all uniform in color but does not look like it has oil on it. (kinda like when you put something greasy on a piece of paper and you get a ring around it that isn't usually greasy to the touch).

Second, blowers and turbos are significantly different wrt inlet conditions. Turbos are much less tolerant of a restriction, and under boost turbo compressor wheels are spinning at a much higher rpm, making them more susceptible to "stuff" entering the inlet and messing up the wheel, which includes droplets of liquid. That being said anyone dumb enough to actually screw up a turbo with filter oil… well… forget it, you get my train of thought.
